I use them. It is made from Mineral salts & Alum . If you find the recipe, do

share please!!!! :) The product works naturally, killing the bacteria that

causes odor. One must be comfortable with their sweat however, because it is not

an antiperspirant.

I have been using them for about a year, and am very happy with the result.

My only experience with deodorant stones is from using them.

I didn't have any luck with them, but my husband likes using them.

For some reason, either I wasn't using them correctly, or they

just don't work for me. It is a good alternative to deodorant

as far as the aluminum scare goes....I hope you get some good info.

Peggy :)

Hi,

These are usually alum the same stuff you can buy powdered for making

pickles - not short for aluminum. (I only mention this because I managed a

store many, many years ago and we couldn't figure out why they were not selling

at all and I mean not even one, the salesgirl was telling people that they were

aluminum because she thought alum was an abreviation.)

Don't do much for sweat but you won't smell :)

But alum IS an aluminium containing compound, Jen...she was right.

chemical formula is KAl(SO4)2 12H20 (forgive the lack of subscripts -

I put a space in between the 2 SO4 molecules and the 12 H20 molecules

for a bit more clarity, hope that worked...)

Bobbi, if you are talking about what I'm thinking of (does that make

sense)  I don't think you can " make " them.  I thought they were a

mineral.

Yes, salt stones have aluminum and are harmful in the same way that

antiperspirant is. However, it does allow you to sweat, and so isn't AS

harmful. I prefer deodorant myself. Anyone have a good recipe?

They did not work for me either. My friend told me thou that people with

cancer should not use anything with Alum in it. Anyone, please correct me

if I am wrong.

Dear Jules,

You know you are one of my favorite people in the whole world but I

disagree. Potassium Aluminum Sulfate is an aluminum cpd but it is not aluminum

per se.

Actually, after we told her, she commented on wondering why it was clear

and not silver like a pot, lol, I kid you not. Terminal case of " fluffy

mem-brain " <joke> :)

so then by that logic, antiperspirants " aren't " aluminum either,

right? after all, aluminum zirconium tetrachororohydrex glycine ain't

what they make pots and cookie sheets out of either, right?

and you're one of my favourite people too, jen...*grin*...even if you

think aluminum isn't always aluminum...

Hi Jules,

So Alum isn't Heuchera Americana- the plant? it's some other thing

altogether that's " also " called Alum. See? This is exactly why INCI names

should be used. Then there's marshmallow the plant and marshmallow the

Kraft, and marigold (calendula) the herb and marigold the useless-but-cute

decorative planter-box flower...

aargh :P

Alum and aluminum are not the same thing at all. Aluminum you have to worry about; alum is good.

Suzi, don't those deodorant stones have aluminum in them? I know I saw alum asan ingredient once.
