Guest guest
Is it flavored? If your son is a patient of Dr. G, the only acceptable flavorings are grape and orange (my compounding pharmacy and I didn't know this, so I randomly chose bubble gum and my son was a wreck for weeks until Dr. G told me orange or grape only). Are you washing the blue dye off the valtrex? It seems like an insignificant amount, but it was enough to make my son a wreck ;-( (Blue Valtrex dye AND bubble gum flavoring made our lives %?#@ for weeks). I don't have experience with compounded valtrex, but I've heard it is just not effective. My son now swallows pills of all shapes and sizes. Before that, I checked with both Dr. G and the pharmacist about making my own compound by dissolving 1 tablet with carefully measured 8 cc of purified water, then giving my son the appropriate amount after the pill completely dissolved (some dissolve much faster than others). I still do this with certain prescriptions that call for odd portions of a tablet that would be difficult to obtain with a pill cutter, such as 3/8 or 5/8. My son takes these carefully measured amounts with an oral syringe or one of the medicine spoons you can get from most pharmacies. Guest guest
HI Vicki, Thanks for sharing your situation. My daughter Kiley is also on diflucan. She was given the compounded form of flucanozole. She seemed to do well on it. It helped a little with her stomach issues but she is also taking acidopholus to help as well. Dr.G did say it was okay to give it to her so that rested my mind a bit on that one. As far as her behavior issues I talked to Juarez, who is a family therapist and assists families with autistic children etc. and we discussed a way to maybe help with her behavior issue. I asked her if it was okay to have an object that she could hit and take her agressions out on. So I bought her a pink pillow(favorite color) with a boot on it (found it at target for $2.00) and I told her that when she was upset or angry that she had to hit the pillow and not her sister or herself. She has had several tantrums today and has been throwing stuff around. Her sleep habits have also changed again. She has been staying up late then waking up in the middle of the night and not going back to sleep. She was on valtrex 500mg once a day and diflucan 40mg once a day. Dr.G said that dosage was not enough to make any effect and he felt that that could be one reason she is regressing. He felt that all that did was stir up the virus in her system even more. That is why he changed it to Famvere. Anyhow, hopefully this new anti viral will work soon and I will see a change in her. Take care, May ---- Vicki Eisen <vickieisen@...> wrote: > Hi My son is also experiencing big behavior issues. He has been on valtrex for 2 months and we just got the rx for diflucan. Guest guest
Titanium Dioxide is the pigment in the pill. It's what makes it white. If you have it compounded, it will be the same thing as compounding it is simply crushing the pill and adding it to a liquid suspension. The Rx liquid suspension isn't any different from a special compound except having it compounded will only provide you with options as far as making it sugar free. I would give it however you have it and start asap. 2 months on Valtrex with no antifungal is hard. Guest guest
Vicki, are you washing the blue dye from the Valtrex? Also, we get Diflucan compounded from Friendly hills because of the red dye. Guest guest
This approach also worked for my son, now 7. Just removing them to a less stimulating environment seems to help and then allowing them to decide when to come out, gives them some measure of control. Good luck Robyn Cristina <cristina5211@...> wrote: My son is five and he does get up set. When this happens we get down to his level and tell him that this is not ok. He he doesn't stop we put him in his room on his bed for a time out. The kids may act as if they don't understand, but they do. When we sit him on the bed, we let him know again that it is not ok and when he is ready he can come out. We leave the door open to be sure he isn't hurting himself. The first few times, he would come out of his room and start throwing the tantrum. We would then just take him back in his room and sit him on the bed and tell him again that it isn't ok and when he was ready he could come out. It took a long time, but he got it. Now he goes in there when we tell him to go and will sit and play with a toy to clam down or even lay on his bed. I have never seen Dr. G, and my son is not on any med, but I thought maybe this could help you.
