Guest guest
These results are different from my son's so i would not want to guess and be wrong. My son had high HHV6 CMV and EBV. He also had high Immune Panel markers....CD4, CD8, CD16, CD56. My son has never had a high ASO, but has responded very well to long term antibiotic treatment and gamma globulin (in the muscle not the vein). I could be wrong, but the fact that your son has high IGG to measles and mumps and rubella could be indicative of overactive immune system as his body has recently tried to fight off these illness. It is not uncommon for HHV6 to be low, it is hiding. Hopefully others will see your post and help decipher, many posters are very good at this. What does his doctor say of these results? > > > I am relatively new to the group and have been reading up the archives > since I joined to educate myself further. Guest guest
What are his total IgG/ IgA/ and all subclasses, this is what you need to run. I would ask to do these tests. you can ask a DAN doc or your pediatrician. Guest guest
Thank you, . We are waiting for our appointment with our doctor to find out what he thinks. However, I have found many times that the combined knowledge and experience of parents can often be very insightful, and at times lead to things that the docs may miss. So, I really appreciate your answer. Our doctor didn't ask for the immune panel markers that you listed - CD4, CD8, CD16, CD56. I wonder if I need to get these tested as well, or whether the current results make that testing irrelevant or not very useful in determining the choice of treatment. Guest guest
Hi Sarita, What interventions have you tried? Your son's symtoms sound very much like my son's. Diet has been a HUGE intervention for him. We had to remove: casein, gluten, CORN, soy, food dyes, preservatives, refined sugar (and limit other sugars). He has also been on the protocol for over 2 years with very good results. Kristy Go for anti-virals/IVIG/ or not? Guest guest
Hi, I do think you would benefit from Nids, viruses don't always test positive but once you begin treatment you see the titers come up and then go down....they usually hide. We never had high titers either except for CMV. Most of the world has elevated CMV but their immune systems keep it surpressed. It is like people with cold sores, this is a herpes virus transmittable even though they are asyptomatic. We did IVIG for 8mons, my son had low total IgG and was always sick. I don't think IVIG is the right choice for you based on these labs, they actually look pretty good. I stopped IVIG because my son began getting serum sickness the side effects were terrible for us. After one infusion wihin 24-72 hrs we got vomitting/nausea/Headaches major..... I love the protocol. I did DAN for 1 year with some improvements but nothing sustained. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Noel, My son also has a low IgG level, and had his first IVIG infusion on Friday. As expected he had a fever, vomited and a terrible headache early Sunday morning (3:00 AM). It was over as soon as it began, but still I was worried about aseptic meningitis. I totally agree with you about Sarita's son. His labs look really good:). Maybe he needs to follow the straight protocol, and not look into IVIG as it really isn't indicated. I wouldn't take the risk if I didn't need to. Did you notice gains in your son's overall health since the IVIG treatments? My son has been on antibiotics off and on for years, he has chronic sinus infections and one virus after another. We've been on the protocol for five years now but 's immune system still needed a boost. I'm hoping that he won't need the IVIG for very long, I guess time will tell... Take care, @...: schneid99@...: Mon, 28 Apr 2008 07:38:18 -0700Subject: Re: Re: Go for anti-virals/IVIG/ or not? It is like people with cold sores, this is a herpes virus transmittable even though they are asyptomatic. We did IVIG for 8mons, my son had low total IgG and was always sick. I don't think IVIG is the right choice for you based on these labs, they actually look pretty good. I stopped IVIG because my son began getting serum sickness the side effects were terrible for us. After one infusion wihin 24-72 hrs we got vomitting/nausea/Headaches major..... I love the protocol. I did DAN for 1 year with some improvements but nothing sustained. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I did IVIG with Dr. Gupta, I saw Dr. Ellis at CHOC also, but went with Dr. Gupta because I liked the Gamunex he was using and Dr. Ellis used Gammagard, the dosing was different. My son had the side effects for the first three infusions and then the next three months he did awesome, the 7th and 8th infusion was worse then the first three. I tested his immunoglobulins after being off for two months of more and they were ok in good range, I will retest soon, hopefully they are staying up. I can tell you he still gets sick like everyone else but it is not nearly as bad. I know the IMIG is less risky and safer but not nearly as effective. I do think the IVIG helped it played a big role thats why I am 100% . Dr. Gupta is now using privigen. ( check spelling) he wanted to switch us to that one but I want to hold off for now and see how things go. Hope this helps. Noel Cheryl Lowrance <c.lowrance@...> wrote: Did Dr. G recommend IVIG? Guest guest
The CD counts (lymphocytes) wouldn't mean much to someone not specializing in immune dysfunction w/knowledge of CFIDS or unless there was an absence of some cells - not a marker in . Low NKs would be 2% - that's CD16/CD56 - but even then that doesn't qualify as an immune deficiency by medical standards, because there are no normal levels determined on those tests. So it's useful to CFIDS docs, but not your regular doc. HTH- --- myasdprofile <asdmommy@...> wrote: > Thank you, . We are waiting for our > appointment with our > doctor to find out what he thinks. Guest guest
Thank you, Noel. I have a basic question - is IMIG the same as SCIG (subcutaneous IG)? I forwarded our test results to Dr Gupta's office today to see what he thinks and spoke with his assistant later. She said that he does SCIG and IVIG, but did not think he did IMIG. Now, here is the interesting bit. Dr Gupta's assistant said that he looked over our test results and believes that my son can potentially benefit from IVIG. Another parent who has done IVIG with Dr Gupta told me that her child had normal IgG levels and yet benefited from the treatment. May be that's why he gave us that feedback on our test results. I am quite concerned about the side-effects of IVIG, so am reluctant to pursue it if there isn't truly a strong likelihood of improvement. Thank you once again for your help. I have an appointment with Dr Gupta tomorrow to discuss the results, so I'll keep you and others posted on what I find out. Guest guest
Thank you, . I have an appointment with Dr Gupta on the phone tomorrow to discuss our test results, so I'll ask him about the need to test for CD counts. Not sure how much he believes in/follows , but I guess it is still worth asking about. Guest guest
Kristy, We have tried diet related interventions - GFCF, soy-free, corn- free, egg-free and all that you list below with the exception of eliminating sugars from pears and blueberries. Didn't see any change from going GFCF (though it might have stopped our recurrent ear infections). We also tried Yasko (step 1) and classical homeopathy, saw a lot of detox and increasing yeast and leaky gut. We have also tried basic DAN supplements but they were a non-starter due to how sensitive my son is. Currently, he is not able to tolerate much protein or fats or sulphuric foods anymore, so he is on a high carb diet. He develops food allergies very easily, even with a rotation diet. I am thinking of trying Body Ecology and raw food diet whenever I can get the time to learn and do it. After the first regression, we have seen three more (like one wasn't enough!) where his basic words/sounds have come and gone. He is completely non-verbal right now, has low muscle tone and global dyspraxia to further compound his issues. Interventions I am currently exploring as our next step include Houston Center for Homeopathy and IVIG/. I am really looking forward to learning from you and this wonderful group. Guest guest
Hi Sarita, I'm very familiar with Houston Center for Homeopathy. My son has been with Dr. G for the last 2.5 years, and I'm happy so far, but if things did not work out, I would sign my son on with Houston Center for Homeopathy in a heartbeat. I learned of them only during the last year. And, finances *should not* be the deciding factor, and they aren't but much of Dr. G's protocol is covered by our insurance, and I understand the packets from HCH are ~$500/month pp. I use homeopathy for myself and my son's twin sister (and my husband *never* gets sick). The only reason I don't use it with my son is that I committed to the protocol. Guest guest
Sarita, I have a thought... Has your son had a total medical work-up which would include MRI of his brain w/CINE flow study, EEG, metabolic labs, genetic labs and a complete endocrine work-up ,thyroid ect.? These labs and tests may prove very helpful in getting to the bottom of the regressions that your seeing. My son has Chiari 1 Malformation, and it took us three years to find out that he needed neurosurgery to correct his problem. After the surgery he took off developmentally, and although he has a ways to go, he's doing really well. Still a kid, but most of what looked like autism is gone. Guest guest
Hi, SCIG/ IMIG this only has to do with the type of immunglobulins administered, some are subcutaneously others intramuscular, The IVIG, intravenous route is very effective, however there are side effects, the other two routes are less invasive and safer to use. The Iv route takes time to infuse and some kiddos only tolerate this infusion at a very slow rate, the infusion can take up to 5-8 hours. Insurance only covers if your child has hypogammaglobulinemia, CVID, SCID.....recurrent infections. I would talk t Dr. Goldberg a little more about this. He may feel the injections are best. You be the judge, how sick is your child, mine always had bronchitis, and pneumonia that never got better, I didn't have much of a choice and met Goldberg after we had done IVIG for months. remember not all viruses are eliminated from IVIG, it is only as good as we can test for. Get more info and weigh the benefits vs the risk....hope this helps you. I have a basic question - is IMIG the same as SCIG (subcutaneous IG)? I forwarded our test results to Dr Gupta's office today to see what he thinks and spoke with his assistant later. She said that he does SCIG and IVIG, but did not think he did IMIG.Now, here is the interesting bit. Dr Gupta's assistant said that he looked over our test results and believes that my son can potentially benefit from IVIG. Another parent who has done IVIG with Dr Gupta told me that her child had normal IgG levels and yet benefited from the treatment. May be that's why he gave us that feedback on our test results.I am quite concerned about the side-effects of IVIG, so am reluctant to pursue it if there isn't truly a strong likelihood of improvement.Thank you once again for your help. I have an appointment with Dr Gupta tomorrow to discuss the results, so I'll keep you and others posted on what I find out.Sarita> > I am relatively new to the > > group and have been reading up the archives & ! gt; sinc e I joined to > > educate myself further.
