Guest guest
My son had all sorts of diaper rash problems---which I think were yeast related, now that I know what I know....the ONLY thing that worked for us was Aquaphor. You might not tolerate the GSE, or it might be yeast die off. If you suspect intolerance, try taking it with No-Fenol enzyme. If you suspect die off, try taking activated charcoal 30-45 minutes after the GSE. Dana
Guest guest
Kim, I whole heartedly agree with you in ALL of this post! I have come the same route and really have discovered that addressing the immune system is a big key to 'maintaining' all of the progressions our kids make. I love VSL#3! I have also read that colostrum is good for boosting that immune system. Have you found any 'magic' supplement that is really good for the immune system? I have also heard that Transfer Factor is really good for this. Right now, my poor boy is choking down a zillion pills each morning and I sure would love to reduce this to a 'few' well selected formulas. Yesterday, since Mark had his ENG (which was a very cool test), I only supplemented him in the morning with Liver Life and gave him his VSL#3. Man, by lunch time, his speach was really, really off. After the test, we got home and he downed his pills. This morning when he woke up, that beautiful, clear speech was back. For how long, I don't know. So, now I find myself looking at the 'box' of supplements in wonder.... which one is it? Which one is responsible for the clear-headedness and the wonderful speech patterns? Or, is it all of them together? Has anyone taken a supplement holliday and then reintroduced again to determine more efficient formulation? Janice [sPAM] [ ] yeast We have had success with removing yeast from my son's system, but are getting ready to do it again b/c he has chronic problems. We are having dificulty KEEPING it out. This is because his immune system is compromised and his body does not naturally fight the yeast on it's own. So, for us, finding the right combo AFTER we detox, to keep the yeast away is key right now. So, sometimes, it isn't as easy as once and done. Some kids it is and a lot of kids it isn't (b/c if you think about it, how did it build up in the first place? why didn't the immune system blance it first off?). One thing I will say is be prepared for the " die off " period. There are things you can do to minimize it or go super slow in the detox to minimize teh amount of yeast that is released into the blood stream (to then be excreted). Toxins are in the blood as the yeast dies off. This " die off " can create havoc. It did for us the first time and we're going to do it gentler this time. For us, die off was crazy, irritable behavior and him acting just plain crazy. I remember it being an unbearble week. It's been compared physically to feeling flu-like. It must have been a horrible experience for him! You can give them activated charcoal to absorb the toxins/yeast as it is released intot he bloodstream to reduce the die off side effects. We did not do that. Do you know how you plan to detox? Will you use something like Diflucan, Nystatin? VSL#3 is a pharmaceutical grade probiotic to replace the natural flora in the gut. We have used three different products and have landed with this one. My son has always been on probiotics but still has dificulty with yeast. I think as such with a lot of the biomedical stuff, i have seen kids become 75% better (neurologically) and some have no reaction what so ever. This goes back to the GFCF discussion. Eliminating milk was the first (and best) thing we did (but again, i've seen it have no effect on other kids). Yeast and immune system was the second best (though, I wish the yeast wasn't chronic). Sorting out his immune system was key b/c if we just keep treating the yeast, we'll be treating the yeast for years to come. Whereas, if we can boost and treat his immune system, the immune system can support itself enough to fight the yeast on it's own. So, there are several routes you can go with this. I suspect treating the yeast and eliminating it would give you a good indication if it's worth purusing on a long term basis. If you detox him and see no difference in behavior/neurologic functioning, then perhaps it's not a factor for that child. There is evidence that the brain and gut are linked but I wish they could narrow down WHICH kids respond to WHAT interventions a little better!! Let me know if there's anything else I can answer. Guest guest
Kim & Janice, I have Nystatin that was given to me by my pedeitrician last Thurs. I started to give Charlie some and then he got really sick with the flu, so I stopped. I also ordered the Three Lac probiotic to switch him to it. (I read about it in McCarthy's book and did some research). I give charlie probiotics daily already. But I wanted to start to get rid of some of the yeast. I am wondering if the Nystatin got him sick with Flu like symptoms from die off? I have held off until he is feeling better and have not given him the Three Lac yet. Your thoughts? Thanks, Colleen Re: [ ] yeast Kim, I whole heartedly agree with you in ALL of this post! Guest guest
I don't know Colleen...all I can say is the same thing happened to Cole. He got a fever and congestion in his nose and he looked sick...very tired. That isn't all I used though. I also used grapefruit seed extract and garlick. I thought I might have overdone it but the doctor knew what we were using and he ok'd it. Guest guest
Colleen, I agree that die-off can cause flu-like symptoms. If he is feeling better, I would start him again but at a much lower dose so that he can tolerate it easier. Keep the dose small or slowly build it up always keeping an eye to what he can tolerate. Remember to avoid yeast feeding foods and really go easy on juice. I tend to look for pear juice as it is not a yeast feeder. I use a good probiotic and swear by it! I love my VSL#3. Mark is a 'big' boy so he can tolerate that. I have heard good things about the Three Lac. Good Luck..... go slow. It is so easy to want to really attack this thing with all of your guns but it has to happen slowly and gently. You did the right thing by stopping the Nystatin until the symptoms went away. Guest guest
I am trying to phase out some gluten and dairy from my son's diet. So far I have had luck with the dairy free ice cream, it is hard when your child has somewhat of a limited diet. I was wondering, can an over consumption of yeast cause a red butt, almost like a diaper rash? It seems to clear up when anti fungal cream is used? ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Guest guest
, If it is clearing with the medication, sounds like it is yeast. I also have let them " air out " some which is helpful for any red bottom. Kathy ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Need a vacation? Guest guest
Found this is my archives also.. * Vaginal Yeast Infection * Constant fatigue * Oral Thrush (white film in mouth or on tongue) * Abdominal pain * Bloating and indigestion * Joint pain with arthritis-like symptoms * Chronic sinus drainage -which antibiotics don't help! * Weight loss OR gain and the inability to change it. * Brain " fog " -easily feel overwhelmed by mental tasks * Fungus on the fingernails or toenails * Urinary infections (again, not helped by antibiotics) * red, itching eyes * Skin rashes on the body (eczema, atopic dermatitis) * Anal itching * Rashes on or around the sexual organs * Hair loss * Depression from feeling " bogged down " all the time. Ari, Above are symptoms of yeast infection...there are more. you can google and find many sites. If you aren't taking about 4-6 times what the bottle of probiotics suggests, you could have yeast. Even taking probiotics doesn't guarantee you won't get it, especially with the 200mg daily and any iv's or additional abx. Increased dose is most likely a herx. Herxing means you are killing off more bugs and you probably need the increase. just cut back on the abx one day and see if the symptoms get better. Increase the dose slowly to avoid having hard herxes, like only add 100mg per week and wait 2 weeks to add more. If you think you are having die off, try the lemon, olive oil drink. Or, drink lemon slices in water all day for a couple of days. They both work great. i recently had die off from oregano oil i was using for yeast. Lemon drinks did the trick! Also good are the peroxide baths and foot soaks. Benedryl at bedtime helps too, wipes up the hystemines left from die off, and usually makes you sleep =) Jan
