Guest guest
My son is also high funtctioning and has many sensory issues and gets overstimulated around others very easily. He is social, but around other kids, does not know how to do this and closes up. He also about 2 years ago could not stand baby brother's screaming / crying. He would hit and it was really bad. We did a Berard Auditory Integration program. I was quite skeptical, but tried it, and I was amazed at how it worked. I do not know if this is common or not. He still has issues though and I know some kids need a repeat or booster. We did not do this. We are also doing RDI , I think you meant relationship development integration?. We are new at it, but I personally do not think in our case this would address my son's sensory issues or stims. I thind his come from a different source as a problem - physiological. We are doing a program called HANDLE, which is a sensory program, and I am not sure how it affects the hearing issues. www.handle.org has consultants that are certified that you could call and ask. It is not the same as OT, it involves the reticulat activating system as well and has some other differences. It re-trains the sensory system to not over react to stimuli. Like anything that helps fix root causes I think, it takes a while to do, but I have heard good things about results from a few other parents. Hope this helps. Angie I know if you go online there are many different Berard AIT programs listed. They are not all the same and some are cheap cd versions only. There is a difference in how these are created. More ?'s on above, let me know. --------------------------------- You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost.
