Thank you so much for posting this. My oldest son, , had an EEG that

showed seizure activity. His neurologist prescribed Lamictal. The only problem

is that I have a major problem with giving him the meds. The meds only come in

tablet or chewable tablet form. Any ideas?

My neurologist emphasized the importance of these meds because without them, it

is like have a light switch going on and off inside his head.

All the best,

Jill

Hi,

Below is a message that I initially sent to the parents in the ABA

center my son goes to.

I think you might find it interesting. It explains and it also help us

understand why Dr. Goldberg's protocol works.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I just found the following article that it is very interesting. It talks

about how MRIs and EEGs are helping diagnose autism. It is also very

interesting that they mention how seizure activity can be detected by

performing an EEG study in a child.

The Answers to Autism May Be Inside the Mind

http://abcnews. go.com/GMA/ OnCall/story? id=4882297 & page=1

<http://abcnews. go.com/GMA/ OnCall/story? id=4882297 & page=1>

I like the following line in the article " One doctor in California is

arguing that trying to diagnose autism without looking at the brain is

like trying to diagnose a heart condition without looking at the heart,

though the established autism community isn't so sure. "

It is also very interesting how some parents interviewed gave

anti-seizure medication to their children and now they're are

mainstreamed in regular schools.

Miranda put Beckett on anti-seizure medicine and the results have been

astounding. " Within a period of 60 days his vocabulary went from maybe

two or three words to about 300 words, " Miranda said. To watch Beckett

today, you might think he has a bit of trouble speaking, but it's minor.

You'd never think he was autistic. He's being mainstreamed in

kindergarten, in a school that he attends with his brother.

We did an EEG study on in April 2007, guess what??? The results

came positive to seizure activity in his brain. I will post 's EEG

results tonight for you to see.

I was curious to know why and how the anti-seizure medications worked in

these children so I did some research. The anti-seizure medication helps

neutralize the neurotransmitters similar to the SSRIs. How interesting!

We have done several lab tests that show that 's neurotransmitters

are imbalanced. I have posted some results in the links section of the

group for you to see.

Now, what causes seizures? One of the causes for seizures is temporal

lobe inflammation. Very interesting, 's brain SPECT scan shows

that. What causes the neurotransmitter imbalance? The brain

inflammation. That is why the anti-seizure medication and SSRIs work.

I have including links below that explains how brain inflammation causes

seizures.

I am sure that you all know McCarthy's story by now. Her son Evan

had live-threatening seizures when he was diagnosed with " autism " .

Please notice how she mentions, " My completely healthy 2-year-old " -

children with regressive autism were not borned with this disease.

life-threatening seizures. " - McCarthy

Anti-seizure medication list

<http://www.efwp. org/programs/ side_effects. shtml>

How the anti-seizure medications work? They help balance the

neurotransmitters in the brain.

I took one medication from the list above and went to the drugs.com

website to get more information about it.

Diastat/epam

http://www.drugs. com/ppa/diazepam .html

Diastat pharmacology

Potentiates action of GABA, inhibitory neurotransmitter, resulting in

increased neural inhibition and CNS depression

<http://www.drugs. com/ppa/diazepam .html> , especially in limbic system

and reticular formation.

The only thing that it is not talked about in the article is the brain

inflammation that causes the seizures. That is the information I sent

yesterday from the Merck pharmaceuticals Co. article.

Have you got a brain SPECT scan done in you oldest son?

We haven't tried any anti-seizure medications. We hope that the

protocol can lower the inflammation and therefore reduce the

seizure activity in my sons brain. I will get another EEG done once

we are 6 months into the protocol, we are also planning to get

another brain SPECT scan done at the same time.

Thanks,

You could get your son's medications compounded by a compounding

pharmacy.

Compounding

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compounding

Here is a website that has information about some compounding

pharmacies

Hope this helps,

Hello Jill-my son is a patient of Dr. G's and he also has seizures. The

neurologist tried Lamictal at first, but after a few weeks my son became

agitated and aggressive. The teacher noticed it in school and we also noticed

his changing behavior at home. The neurologist switched him to Keppra and he has

been on it for a long time now with no problem behaviors. He hasn't had any

seizures with Keppra. I just thought you might like to know how it affected my

son.

All the best to you and your son,

Gayle

Hi Gayle,

Have you done a brain SPECT scan in your son?

I am wondering how the brain SPECT scan results relate to the

seizures.

Thanks so much Gayle. I was going to write back earlier and completely forgot.

My kids do not see Dr. G but I am a HUGE believer in . I have an aunt and my

dad's cousin have CFIDS. On top of that, my children's father has a sister with

CFIDS. So, my children have something in their genes from BOTH sides of the

family. I am a single mother now and the only insurance they have is medicaid.

However, I read these posts carefully and try my best to follow the diet.

Strange, had a bad reaction last year when I was able to give him the

Lamictal (?sp), he was sick. I will try again and see what happens and then go

back to the neurologist. She is top notch and has a very open mind.

All the best,

Jill

Hi,

Below is a message that I initially sent to the parents in the ABA

center my son goes to.

I think you might find it interesting. It explains and it also help us

understand why Dr. Goldberg's protocol works.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I just found the following article that it is very interesting. It talks

about how MRIs and EEGs are helping diagnose autism. It is also very

interesting that they mention how seizure activity can be detected by

performing an EEG study in a child.

The Answers to Autism May Be Inside the Mind

http://abcnews. go.com/GMA/ OnCall/story? id=4882297 & page=1

<http://abcnews. go.com/GMA/ OnCall/story? id=4882297 & page=1>

Anti-seizure medication list

How the anti-seizure medications work? They help balance the

neurotransmitters in the brain.

I took one medication from the list above and went to the drugs.com

website to get more information about it.

Diastat/epam

http://www.drugs. com/ppa/diazepam .html

<http://www.drugs. com/ppa/diazepam .html>

Diastat pharmacology

Potentiates action of GABA, inhibitory neurotransmitter, resulting in

increased neural inhibition and CNS depression

<http://www.drugs. com/ppa/diazepam .html> , especially in limbic system

and reticular formation.

The only thing that it is not talked about in the article is the brain

inflammation that causes the seizures. That is the information I sent

yesterday from the Merck pharmaceuticals Co. article.

Hi, Kristi.

I know this question isn't directed at me, but both my boys have seizure

disorders. We've successfully reduced Noah's seizure meds down to one dose per

day and hope to eliminate them completely at his next visit. is still on

two doses per day of Zarontin, which we will reduce to one dose per day in 10

days. We recently adjusted another med and want to note changes before altering

anything else. So far, no signs of seizure activity in Noah, and as I've said

before, his other two neuro problems--cyclical vomiting syndrome and

migraines--have completely disappeared about 6 weeks into the protocol, and we'd

been experiencing that for two years.
