Guest guest
If that club receives government funding, they could be charged with discrimination and be legally liable. Our local B & G club actually has a program specifically for kids with disabilities. Check again with the director and explain the ADA. Good luck! Heidi Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Boys & Girls Club Hello everyone....I have a quick question, does anyone on this list have a child that attends the Boys & Girls club after school? My son currently goes there after school and has been for the last 4yrs and just yesterday I was told that they aren't suppose to let children with Autism or disabilites attend to their after school program. I was so pissed!! Anyways, any feedback will be greatly appreciated! (: Peggy
Guest guest
Heidi...Where is your club located?? I am in California and from my understanding they said that they do not facilitate to children with special needs and I don't have a problem with that because I have someone with my child but recently they had a change of Directors and this woman does not seem to be very knowledgeable about laws and regulations. No where in the the policy and procedures does it say that special needs children are not welcome at the facility without an aide. My child is also high functioning and can be on his own but I choose to have someone there with him who is funded by the Regional Center. Thanks for the response (: --- On Thu, 6/19/08, theshabbysheep@... <theshabbysheep@...> wrote: From: theshabbysheep@... <theshabbysheep@...> Subject: Re: Boys & Girls Club Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008, 4:09 PM If that club receives government funding, they could be charged with discrimination and be legally liable. Guest guest
My son hasn't ever attended a B & G club event but I've peeked in on some of their meetings and helped out at one of their events since they meet at the community center where our homeschooling group holds our co-op classes. I'm sure the organization of the group depends greatly upon those leading it, but I'd be very leary about leaving my kid with the group I've viewed. They are not well organized, often poorly supervised and the kids tend to be pretty rough. Gaylen **************Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Guest guest
8 years ago a youth director at a YMCA tried to boot my son out of all the classes that he was enrolled in.He was also refusing to give me my money back. I had to talk to someone higher up to get my refund. Every time that I talked to him - he would lead me down to the front desk and make me fill out the form again. I switched to another branch - and he was soon fired anyway. It really angers me that our children are supposed to live in such a narrow world - The logic usually is that the caretakers aren't supposed to have to deal with anyone who is different. They need specially trained teachers only and they will not provide them. alice ---- Peggy Cabrera <pegcabrera@...> wrote: > Â > Hello everyone....I have a quick question, does anyone on this list have a child that attends the Boys & Girls club after school? Guest guest
That sounds like discrimination to me! Guest guest
But private groups CAN discriminate. Of course this has gotten out of hand. We are one step from thinking that Adolph Hitler really was right - Just think how Blacks, Gays and Jews were treated in the past - Now it is OK to mistreat those with disabilities and autism. Guest guest
Ditto to that statement! I am so sick of everyone forgetting about our children! The school system is the worst! > > > > Hello everyone.... I have a quick question, does anyone on this list have a child that attends the Boys & Girls club after school?
