Please see below. My friend Ellen is a specialist in this area, and says there

is NO WAY the Boys & Girls Clubs are within their rights. As a parent, you can

first contact the regional center, the national center, my friend Ellen (email

me for her contact info), and she even recommended letting the Club’s sponsors

know about their ‘behavior’.

Subject: Re: FW: Boys & Girls Club

Importance: High

Re this legal thing: Here are some ideas:

1. Do they get ANY support from the school district or from the feds? If so,

they cannot discriminate (under Section 504).

2. And then there's the ADA. See this webiste: http://www.ada.gov/childq

<http://www.ada.gov/childq & a.htm> & a.htm They definitely fall under the ADA.

Especially see the first question in this Q & A.

3. If you look at the Boys and Girls Club website, here is their Mission

Statement:

Our Mission is the Movement's Reason for Being

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their

full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

A Boys & Girls Club Provides

A safe place to learn and grow...

Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals...

Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences...

Hope and opportunity.

Note the mention of " ALL children. "

4. Also, they have a long list of " partners " (that means major donors) who would

be VERY unhappy to hear about this. See the list at

http://www.bgca.org/partners/

I'd certainly contact the main number for the Boys and Girls Club:

National Headquarters

1275 Peachtree Street NE

Atlanta, GA 30309-3506

Phone: (404) 487-5700

or the West Coast regional office:

Pacific Service Center

4201 Long Beach Boulevard

Suite 101

Long Beach, CA 90807

Phone: (562) 981-8855

They live for issues like this.

But private groups CAN discriminate. Of course this has gotten out of hand. We

are one step from thinking that Adolph Hitler really was right -

Just think how Blacks, Gays and Jews were treated in the past - Now it is OK to

mistreat those with disabilities and autism.

ago a youth director at a YMCA tried to boot my son out of all the classes that

he was enrolled in.He was also refusing to give me my money back. I had to talk

to someone higher up to get my refund. Every time that I talked to him - he

would lead me down to the front desk and make me fill out the form again. I

switched to another branch - and he was soon fired anyway.

> It really angers me that our children are supposed to live in such a narrow

world - The logic usually is that the caretakers aren't supposed to have to deal

with anyone who is different. They need specially trained teachers only and they

will not provide them.

there after school and has been for the last 4yrs and just yesterday I was told

that they aren't suppose to let children with Autism or disabilites attend to

their after school program. I was so pissed!! Anyways, any feedback will be

greatly appreciated! (:
