Jill,

For my son, we did a 24 hour urine test and based on that, they

could tell what amino acids my son was deficient in. Based on that,

we had a custom amino acid blend created for him.

I can't remember the name of the lab, but If you would like, I can

pull some reports and try and find it for you.

I have info on certain of the amino acids on this page [scroll down to

the relevant section]

http://www.danasview.net/supps.htm

You can purchase an amino acid blend at your local health food store.

I open capsules and mix with peanut butter.

Some of them help with language, others with muscle tone, others for

other things.

My guide for supplementing amino acids is that we had a plasma amino acids

test done, it showed certain deficiencies and our doctor recommended ways to

remediate.

Amino Acids

Question for the group. What is the general discussion about amino

acids? Why are some of you picking one amino acid over others to

supplement with and not a supplement that has them all. This is

probably my next area to tackle and am wondering the general consensus

about this. We are currently using enzymes, have started the brainchild

minerals and vitamins and zinc and am now considering amino acids in a

couple of months. Thanks for your time, Jackie D.

We had a urine amino acid test that indicated what my son was

deficient in. We then had a custom amino acid blend made specifically

for him.

The custom blend worked wonderfully for my daughter and I was able to

increase to full dose right away with no problem.

However, I noted that the dose includes a pretty high level of B6 - which

for some people would cause hyper/ggression.

We were on all three Houston enzymes and a number of other antioxidants and

vitamin/minerals before we started.

I would try it with a No Fenol and see if that makes a difference.

If it was prescribed based in a plasma amino acids test that showed that

your child needed it, I would try to figure out whether certain things need

to be in place first/consult the doc that prescribed it and try to problem

solve the whole thing before abandoning it. The custom amino acvid blend we

have is one of the very best things we have done for our daughter. We just

retested aminos (about a year after first test) to see if she still needs

the custom blend or can " graduate " to an OTC combo.

I hope this helps,

Josie

Hi, can anyone give me feedback on starting amino acids? We got a

custom blend for my son and the third day, even at a quarter dose, was

NOT fun--hyper, on edge, obsessing, general regression, even the usual

Rx side effect of stuttering. I'm going to stop it unless this is one

of those things where you have to ride out the negatives to see any

good. From what I've read there's a pretty direct effect.

TIA,

Biotin is required for proper protein digestion, you can try adding

that, plus a protease enzyme, see if that helps. It should NOT have

the effect you describe.

Does it contain cysteine? And did your child test low cysteine?

Giving cysteine to a child who is high cysteine can cause the problems

you list.

I have done previously, Neurtotransmitter tests for my son. He always has high

GABA levels, and PEA levels also off the charts. I have been giving him Theanene

Serene for Neurotransmitter support, and also started L-Acetyl Cartine a amino

acid.

Does anyone has any information, if L-Acetyl Cartine and L-Cartine does the

same things, as in description not much difference but in price a lot.

Thanks

Both L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine are involved in the

metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats, as well as the

conversion of fats into energy and triglyceride metabolism. Acetyl-L-

carnitine has an added benefit since it crosses the blood brain

barrier much more easily than plain L-carnitine. It is also a potent

antioxidant with a special affinity for nerve cells, and supports

glutathione and CoQ10 levels.

The protease enzymes ( " pro " for protein) break proteins down into

amino acids. Only some are needed through the diet, because the body

can make many of it's own. They are called the " essential amino

acids " . Eating enough protein foods with enough enzymes to break them

down should be all that's necessary, is my understanding. I think the

reason the Peptizyde (protease supplement) creates such good behavior

in my daughter is that it's not only stopping the dairy she's allergic

to from causing problems, but at the same time, by completely breaking

the proteins down into the amino acids, giving her some aminos she may

be missing, but that's purely speculation. On the Peptizyde she's a

sheer delight, days she doesn't have it, regardless of whether she's

had dairy, she's more like a normal kid - has ups and downs, gets

cranky when tired/hungry.

We love FortiFlax, it has a bunch of aminos and EFA's all in one deal.

May not work for your needs...but it's a suggestion.

Ross has some recommendations re brands in the Mood Cure and the

Diet Cure books--but I don't know if the specific aminos she's

recommending are what you are looking for. Regardless, good books to

look into.

My son did well with whey protein powder. There were a few aminos

that I had to supplement separately.

I have started to read info on and it says about abnormal a mino

acid results.

Has anyone any links or able to explain this a bit more....also where I

can find out about my son's results which were abnormal 18 months ago

and feel something should have been and should be done to retore this.

He has recently had 24 hour urine collection for amino acids and I am

waiting results.

Thank you,

My son needed aminos. I used whey protein powder as a general amino supplement,

and added a few individual aminos as required.

Has anyone used Bragg's Liquid Aminos? It's really considered a food, I think.
