Guest guest
Hey Donna - Yes, I've OD'd my kids too - on their allergy meds, on their antifungals, at least once each. And once, my son picked up an anxiety med that I set on the countertop - that really freaked me out, and it wacked him out and made him quite drunk. That terrified me, and I had to get up several times during the night to be sure he was ok. Don't punish yourself. I try to keep a log - like a wipe-off board (plastic page divider works and you can wipe & restart) where I mark off that I've given meds. I'm bad to not follow it well enough, though, so each night I prepare that night's meds & the morning's meds in the little liquid Tylenol cups, so when they're empty and the morning's cup is full, I know I've given them. If the morning cup doesn't have it's meds in them, I know I haven't. 'Cause I'm too unreliable to make a check on a sheet of paper. That method is working best for me. If you get to switch to Famvir some day, no more pill washing! And Marcia says some kids don't need the dye washing - that it's waste of time. For my boys, it made them seriously hyper, but it'd be worth trying on a weekend a couple of times... If you don't see a decline and don't have a rash start up, maybe you wouldn't have to continue. Some people may be willing to pay extra to have the Valtrex compounded dye-free into capsules - that would cost me an extra $40 and I'd have to have them shipped on topof that, so it's not worth it to me. It could cost some even more. HTH- Meds mistakes? I am shaking as I write this. Sometimes, especially at night when I'm tired, I find myself on " autopilot " while giving my son his meds. Of course it's not intentional, but the whole process has become a time-worn ritual of cutting and crushing pills and " sandwiching " them in non-dairy ice cream. Well, a few minutes ago, an hour after my son went to bed, it dawned on me that tonight at bedtime I gave him his *morning* meds -- Famvir, Tenex, and Celexa. Thank God the psychoactive meds are in sub-clinical doses and if I skip the Celexa in the morning, there should be nothing to worry about. I've made small mistakes with dosing one or two times before, but nothing this dramatic. I guess I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and how you handled it. TIA, Donna
