Guest guest
Barb, We¹ve seen a Riley endocrinologist ( DiMegio) for this... my two boys have strange growth curves (we just started out by taking one boy to her to see what would go on). The boys started out headed for around 6 feet, and at about age 5 the curve changed drastically and now they have a different curve that will end up with their being quite a bit shorter. The endocrinologist we saw does not believe it has anything to do with meds, but has no clue as to why. My other 3 kids have normal growth curves. When a neurogeneticist we see at Riley saw one of the growth curves, he immediately brought up the idea of a mitochondrial disorder and we ran some tests (not the whole hideously expensive, invasive gamut) but nothing showed up (which does not mean that there isn¹t one going on.... they are very hard to pin down). Here¹s the biopage for Ora Pescovitz... http://rileychildrenshospital.com/physicians/profile.jsp?id=254 One thing Dr. DiMegio did was to use a formula to roughly figure out the range of what my son¹s adult height should be based on my height and my husband¹s height. She also did a bone age x-ray which was within range but on the lower side. I have a daughter who is tiny, and I showed Dr. DiMelgio her growth chart as well... but since that child has a perfectly shaped growth curve, Dr. DiMeglio said that¹s a normal. Basically, nothing came of the appointment except that they will monitor growth. It¹s always a mystery with our kids... so frustrating. Caroline G. P.S. We had no clue as to who to see and just let our pediatrician get us into ³whoever² down at Riley. Later I found out that you could go to this page http://rileychildrenshospital.com/physicians/locator.jsp?view=BySpecialty .... and read about the different interests of the endocrinologists... that would have helped me decide who to see... My soon 17 yo is only 5'3 " and 95 lbs. Dr. Goldberg has rec'd that we see a pediatric endocronologist. We live in central Illinois? Does anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking of going to Riley's Childrens' Hospital. There is a doctor there called Ora Perkowitz that I have heard of. Did anyone have any success with growth hormone? Thanks in advance for any help/advice. Barb Barb Katsaros
