Guest guest
Hi Domenique. I am not at work so I can't remember the exact ratio of percentile to standard deviations, so if you can't find anyone else who knows off the top of their head, then just email me at my work address and I'll check it in January. maryw@... Otherwise, think of percentiles this way-- if you lined up 100 kids, your child would be within that 100. If the score was in the 30th percentile, your child would be 30th from the bottom. 50th is smack dab in the middle--a totally " average " score. Average ranges from somewhere around 25 or 30 up to about 70 or so (again, I'd have to look at my chart at work). In terms of a " disability " , the percentage has to be well below average... somewhere under the 10th percentile. Again, I need my chart to tell you for sure! LOL! Guest guest
Hi everyone, I would just like some input if possible. My daughter is 3.5 years and has High functioning autism. She is still working her way through the Protocol and she is doing well so far, however, I was wondering if anyone here has seen their kids do better with their auditory processing after doing or if they can recommend any therapies that help in that area. That is my daughter's weakest area and I am still concerned about it... Thanks in advance for your help! May the Lord bless you and keep you! Guest guest
Hi- Yes, we definitely had improvement w/auditory processing. It takes time (after that first year is when we really saw the biggest gains in this area I think). One mom recently posted that prozac had tremendously improved her child's auditory processing very quickly. I've seen SSRIs help (and hurt when it was the wrong one) in that area too. When I've had CFIDS or PANDAS flares, I have trouble w/auditory processing too, which gets better when I do. It's just a part of , and responds to the treatment. Speech and OT could help in those areas too. You probably won't see it improve overnight in many cases, although again like the SSRI experiences, sometimes you hit something just right. Even antifungals have affected it for my oldest son before. Diflucan was great, nizoral was even better. I don't know if it works that way for everyone though - just my experience. Guest guest
Hi! My son is 3.5 and been on the nids protocol since April. He was just emerging with his nouns and animal sound and starting to say I want cookie, chip, juice, milk. Now I am happy to report that he is talking more and potty training!! This really started to improve once we started the ssri. I was so happy to see that the auditory processing does improve over time as well! Tonight my little guy came out of his room after I had tucked him in and stood at the top of the stairs and said, " Daddy I gotta go pee pee " , to my husbands delight not only did pull his own pants down in the bathroom and hopped up on the potty to do pee pee and poo poo. Once he had finisahed he looked at my husband and said, " I did CA Ca " . I feel like I won the lottery tonight! He still has 1-2 accidents a day but he has come a long way from 4 months ago when he was still refusing to sit on the potty longer than a couple of seconds! . I feel so blessed that I found Mrs. on and the NNY clinic. Thanks for listening, From: <thecolemans4@...> Subject: Re: Auditory Processing Date: Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 5:49 PM Hi- Yes, we definitely had improvement w/auditory processing. Guest guest
Our greatest improvement in auditory processing came from AIT. But yes, the protocol did help, too. Guest guest
AIT = Auditory Integration Therapy We used Therapeutic Listening and Samonas as it was provided through EI and our school district. Both are home based programs but there are clinic based programs, too like Berard and Tomatis although they are pricey. Guest guest
Regarding AIT- We did this a few years ago and did have success from it. I do know that not all programs that you find on line are the same. I guess some of the home programs have CDs they send that are produced differently. If I recall correctly, some companies just have the CD that is recorded on it with the different " sounds / frequencies " , and others are the true replication of what the machine creates with the different frequencies that are on the CD. Berard meant for it to not just be a copy of this on a disc. I am thinking some just do this as a sort of fast money making thing without the cost of the real equipment. I am sorry this is hard for me to explain, it has been a while since we did it, and since this was explained to me. Angie > Hi everyone, I would just like some input if possible. Guest guest
What specific AIT therapy did you do with your kiddo? My guy seems to have this as his biggest hurdle. He's very smart, excelling in his class but has a hard time listening if other things are distracting his auditory senses. Thanks, Jess From: Hankinson <jlhank80 (DOT) com> Subject: Re: Auditory Processing groups (DOT) com Date: Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 12:42 PM Hey Jess...Auditory Integration Therapy :-D
Guest guest
Sorry for the late response, I just opened this. I have to look back to see which one we did. I am not sure if the focus was more to help kids tolerate more noise without going crazy from it, versus allowing them to have concentration with background noise. I recall it more being the first, so do not know if this would target the difficulty you are speaking of. Maybe someone else may know more about this specifically. I am not really sure what would target this. We did AIT at home, but it was not just a copy of the listening CDs, but was produced from the machine they use to create the different frequencies. I think if you google 'Berard and AIT " you may see his website, I think he was the first to do and creat AIT.
