Guest guest
Hi M, My son is 20 and recovered. We also started with Nystatin at 4 until we realized it wasn't strong enough to take care of the yeast problem. Dr. G uses Diflucan or Nizoral to combat the yeast. Unfortunately our kids are I are sick and they need strong medicine to make them well. I used to be afraid of the medicines. My son has been on antifungals of one kind or another since he was four or for about sixteen years. The reason we have regular blood tests is as a precaution to ensure that our children's bodies are not harmed by any of the medications they are taking. Fortunately in the sixteen years we have been doing this, all of 's blood tests have been normal. We switch the antifungal every six months so they continue to work and so the body doesn't build up a tolerance to the medications. In the beginning I was also worried about what the medicines would do long term. That was when Dr. G asked me if my child had diabetes would I give him insulin? Our kids are sick and until the big cure comes along, they need these meds to make them healthy. The medications are not bad for our children, but not taking them can cause permanent scaling of the brain. My son now lives independently in the dorms his university. He would not have made it without the medical intervention. I know this for a fact because when we moved into a new house some years ago I forgot to refill his antivirals. I didn't think they did much anyway. Within a few days, I saw a very autistic child I hadn't seen in years. After starting the meds again, he returned to his normal state. I don't think that would happen now that his immune system is so much more normal, but would I ever chance it by stopping the meds? Never. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hello, Reading your message about taking antifungals and antivirals for a long time. I've a kid of 14 who is at normal school but with a lot of autistic problems; going to school and learning process is very difficult. Could you think such treatment could be benefit for such problems? I'm living in Europe, so I think I never never find a doctor who will prescribe these for a long time. How do you do in USA? Is it possible to order such medicine by internet sites after a first visit to a doctor in the hope he'll prescribe it for a couple of days, max 1 month? Thanks for yous inputs, Isabelle
