Guest guest
Hey Vicki! I am so glad your son is doing so well, it's inspirational!...I see Dr. , too. We flew out from Chicago to NY in Sept. and my daughter is doing better too! Aren't Kathy and Dr. great? I am so thankful for them. About the sugar, did you know that yeast grows like crazy in it!? And yeast metabolites can cause anything to cramping (which is a build up of lactic acid in the muscle) to diarrhea...remember, yeast by products include alcohol. That may be why your son doesn't do so well on it. Also, is he taking any probiotic supplements? Does Dr. recommend that? I am not sure. We are really watching the sugars too because my daughter still seems to have flare ups on it too even though she is on diflucan. I bet your son's immune system still needs to cool down more before the infractions stop affecting him. I have heard that once we get these kiddos systems back in order they can even handle eating cheap white bread again. Well I hope this helps you! May the Lord bless you and keep you! We started gfcf yeast free one year ago. He has autism, adhd, allergies, pandas. It has taken me such a long time to figure out the biomedical issues. I am so happy to report that Jake is the healthiest and happiest he's ever been since going on the diet and starting nids. We still have alot of ups and downs but the ups are keep me so optimistic. Here are my questions about sugar and diet. Why has sugar become such an issue? He becomes so erratic and aggressive if he consumes sugar, molasses, honey etc. Is this an allergy or an absorption issue? Now that he has been on the diet it seems his sensitivity has heightened on all foods. When we do a mild cheat on gluten like pizza crust, the next day he's achy and grabbing his legs. I think he also gets headaches. I'm just shocked at his reactiveness to foods now. Where as before I never thought his diet was a major culprit. Is it because he is so cleansed from all these foods? He is on valtrex, diflucan, allegra, singulair, and celexa. I am seeing cognitive gains along with language and social boosts. He is so much happier unless he has a diet infraction. Then watch out he just completely falls apart. I just want to better understand so I can continue moving him along this long journey. has been our godsend! Thanks so much to on and Dr Bruce along with everyone on this list. Any advice or info to help me sort this out is so appreciated! ! Guest guest
We use Stevia in instead of sugar. Zylatol is another non-sugar sweetener but is corn based and my son went crazy on this also. Stevia is expensive but comes out to be near the same cost as sugar since it is so concentrated. You need to use very little. Sugar also can feed viruses, is what our dietician said who works with asd kids also. I am looking into using a book and diet for this that talks about the fungal / yeast issues and has a diet for this, it is not a crazy one and builds up in phases and can also be combined with the diet. It is called ? The Fungal Link, you can google " know the cause and doug kaufmann " and his site will come up. Guest guest
I don't know a clear answer. But the meds are impacting the immune system and making changes. Insulin release (in response to sugar) does directly impact some cytokines and can do so pretty quickly. Food sensitivities can do the same thing. So maybe during this 'shift' as the immune system is not locked in it's same position all of the time, the negatives show up a lot more intensely? It varies a lot for us too from month to month if not day to day, and I can't always find a pattern (I haven't been able to manage a journal).\ Wish I had an answer. ________________________________ From: Vicki Eisen <vickieisen@...> nids Sent: Sunday, November 9, 2008 11:40:49 PM Subject: questions about sugar and the havoc it causes Hi My son is 10 and has been on the nids protocol for 7 months.
