Guest guest
My kids were on Coromega when we started with Dr. G. He seemed ok with the fish oil supplements. We ended up discontinuing them with Noah until he became healthier. We didn't see much in the way of improvements and they tended to make him hyperactive. HTH, Robyn From: Martha Wood <marthawood@...> Subject: Fish Oil Supplements Question " groups (DOT) com " < > Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 8:48 AM Hello all, I have been reading The Late Talker this past weekend by Marilyn Agin. There is a whole chapter espousing the use of fish oil supplements to help speech in children with neurologically based learning disorders and speech disorders. I know Dr. G is not a fan of supplements because of possible impurities in them. But we want to give this a try and wondered if anyone has had success with supplementing your child's diet with omega-3 fatty acids. And if so what kind should we try? Could we trust an over the counter product from the Vitamin Shop or should we get a pharmaceutical kind? Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Dr G told me the only one he approves is Efamol Pure Evening Primrose Oil. He said this is the only one that is pharmaceutical grade. I ordered it online. I believe the only way I found it was through one web site. I don't have the site now but you can do a search. Guest guest
This isn't fish oil though, is it? He seemed fine with the Coromega as well. What kind of improvements did you seen on the Evening Primrose oil. I may want to give it a try since we didn't see much of anything on the fish oil. Guest guest
It's not fish oil but it has Omega-3, 6 and 12 I believe. I haven't had him on it very long due to so many other changes Dr G has been making. I don't want to confuse things. I started it on him the other day and I have not seen him reacting to it. So, so far so good. I can keep everyone updated. Of course when Dr G makes another change at our phone consult in a couple of weeks, it might be hard to tell but hopefully I can tell if they are helping him after two weeks. The directions say to give 6 capsules a day for the first 12 weeks when first starting it to optimize the bodies store of the supplement but I have been giving him only two a day. He is turning 12 in January so I could probably give him more down the road. Jerri > > This isn't fish oil though, is it? He seemed fine with the Coromega as > well. Guest guest
Just fyi (I may actually try the primrose oil later on) - when I've given omegas (fish oil once for a few months - the clean one from Kirkmans, a couple of other omegas I don't remember but were supposed to be clean) to my oldest, he improves the first couple of weeks and begins reacting at about 6 wks or more with eczema and an odd rash around his mouth (my youngest gets the rash after naturally flavored vitamin gummies). It took me forever to recognize the pattern - I don't usually realize it until about 3 months of steady decline, mainly because at first I saw good and no negatives so I don't suspect it later on down the road. It's when I run out of something (I can be bad about that) that I notice something is a negative. He's a slow reacter on a few things, and it builds with exposure (like soy lecithen - it's fine the first few days, then chaos). Now when I try things like that, I'm marking my calendar at 8 weeks to re-evaluate where I think we are after what changes, because I won't remember later.
