Guest guest
My name is My son is 5 and I suspect him of having ADHD..? His symptoms are as follows: Often does not give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities. Often has trouble keeping attention on tasks or play activities. Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly. Often does not follow instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions) . Often avoids, dislikes, or doesn't want to do things that take a lot of mental effort for a long period of time (such as schoolwork or homework). Often loses things needed for tasks and activities (e.g. toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools). Is often easily distracted. Is often forgetful in daily activities. Often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat. Often gets up from seat when remaining in seat is expected. Often runs about or climbs when and where it is not appropriate (adolescents or adults may feel very restless). Often talks excessively. Often blurts out answers before questions have been finished. Often has trouble waiting one's turn. Often interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g., butts into conversations or games). He also exhibits symptoms of Sensory Integration Dysfunction: Withdraw when being touched. (We always just thought he was moody...he is getting better with this) Refuse to eat certain foods because of how the foods feel when chewed. (As an infant starting solids was hard his gag reflex was so strong...until recently his menu was very limited, and he drank lots and lots of milk) Be oversensitive to odors. (Not as bad as he once was...he practically threw up when we tried to go to Indian food, just walking in the door made him gag and wretch...we had to leave) Be hypersensitive to certain fabrics and only wear clothes that are soft or that they find pleasing. (Still complains about tags, and how certain item and shoes " don't feel good " . He gets overly upset about this) Dislike getting his or her hands dirty. (Again not as bad as it once was...as a baby we went to the beach but he would refuse to touch the sand with any part of his body...he would freak out and cry. He has gotten better, we have been working with him baking and gardening... but he still has days where he will not go near a sand box) Be uncomfortable with some movements, such as swinging, sliding, or going down ramps or other inclines. Your young child may have trouble learning to climb, go down stairs, or ride an escalator. (It seemed like it took us forever to teach him to go down stairs...) Jump, swing, and spin excessively. (As a baby one of the few things he liked to do...where I didn't have to hold him was jump in the jumper...over and over and over...we took it with us everywhere) Appear clumsy, trip easily, or have poor balance. (I was always afraid to let him climb on the playground because he looks so unstable...) Have difficulty handling small objects such as buttons or snaps. He didn't learn to dress himself until close to 4 and a half...he still doesn't do it well...clothes on backwards, buttoned wrong, and still wearing pants that he can just slip on and off. Lack creativity and variety in play. For instance, your child may play with the same toys in the same manner over and over or prefer only to watch TV or videos. (OMG he was obsessed with the Train...everything. ..toys movies etc...this has since developed into a star wars obsession... We also must have watched Finding Nemo about 500 times, that was the only way we could get him to fall and stay asleep was to play NEMO over and over.) He also NEVER experienced separation anxiety...we could come and go and he barley noticed. He also grinds his teeth at night. It sounds horrible. He used to walk in his sleep, and still talks in his sleep. He used to have Night terrors also. He also used to get super high unexplainable fevers. I'm talking 104 and up...we had to alternate between Motrin and Tylenol...the pediatrician called it piggy backing...so every 2 hours he would get a dose of either...and he had projectile vomiting out of the blue as a baby... He has also been chronically constipated since 3 weeks of age when we switched to formula because of difficulty breastfeeding & THRUSH! He was born via c-section after 19+ hours of induced labor. All the while I was pumped full of antibiotics for testing GBS+ (group be strep). Then he got thrush he was given more antibiotics. And he also had clogged tear ducts for which they gave us more antibiotics. ..Until recently with diet changes we have made his belly always looked like those starving kids on TV, all bloated...And certain foods make him look totally stoned! No joke...Chocolate being one of them! Anyway...EVERYONE says I am reading too much into this...That is a normal 'high spirited unique' boy...I would like your opinions, please. Am I just looking for something that isn't there??? We were referred to specialists after completing the questionnaires at our pediatricians office, the options he offered were: The Center For Developing Minds Dr. Klindt PlusFour Solutions All of which are very expensive and not necessarily covered by insurance... and he hasn't officially been diagnosed. We have removed dairy from his diet temporarily, he is on a 500mg supplement of Omega 3-6-9, and a probiotic @ 6billion bacteria/day. Can anyone recommend a good multi-vitamin? ?? I have read Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha -McBride and McCarthy's book Louder Than Words....And have scoured the www for as much info as possible... Some direction/guidance would be great....Some reassurance one way or the other...Please. .. Thanks for your time.
