Guest guest
Hello Margaret, You have come to the right place for answers. Do not give your mother Activan! If she is having hallucinations, and it came on early in her illness then she has LBD. Our LO cannot handle Activan. My Don is the world's worst for being negative. According to him there is something wrong with everything and anything, just name it. I was always having to ease his anxiety about something. The doctor gave him Zoloft. It has worked wonders for him. It hasn't taken all of it away, but has made life more tolerable. I have to face the fact that he has a very serious brain damaging disease. So there you have my experience. Love a lot, Imogene In a message dated 12/9/2008 10:56:33 PM Central Standard Time, jjbmag@... writes: What are your suggestions for treating anxiety? My mom (85) is extremely anxious in a debilitating way, both for her and her caretakers. She was on Ativan while my dad was dying but has not taken it for almost two years. Her neurologist, who now thinks she does not have LBD, thought that is what caused her hallucinations. She also hardly sleeps at night and doesn't sleep at all during the day. Her medications are synthroid, diovan and temazepam (15 mg - went up to 30 mg but she fell at night getting up to use the commode). She is always anxious and obsesses about everything. Goes to the bathroom every 10 minutes but doesn't have a UTI. Obsesses about her panties. She won't go out anymore, is always negative, etc., etc.. Dinner time is a disaster - she is so anxious about the food, there is too much, it doesn't taste the same, etc.. My brother, who cooks for her, is a professional chef trained at the Culinary Institute! She lives on Ensure and Activia! My brother won't hear of trying Seroquel becauses it causes strokes. Her visting internist once recommended it and now he won't prescribe it and neither will the neurologist. The Internist suggested Haldol which we know is a big no-no. My brother is her primary caretaker, then my sister. I live out of state. She has 24/7 aides who only last a few months at a time now because of the anxiety and lack of sleep. Sorry for going on. Just looking for some help. Margaret **************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail.
