Hi Marie and Barbara,I'd like to insert a word of caution about xylitol. It's an excellent sweetener, but it's also a pathogen killer, which is why it's used in dentrifrice and dental chewing gum. Some people will herx if they start with a big amount. I know, because I substituted all xylitol for all sugar in a great lemon pie recipe and one friend who's a bit sensitive to xylitol felt nausea, and I herxed after a couple slices. it's something that should be incorporated gradually, like anything else, to give the body a chance to acclimate to its effects.Be well,Léna Hi Barbara, What abotu givign the website for xylitol to you mother and asking her next time to buy it on line this kind of product that fit your health condition ? the reis candies chocolate and pure xylitol as a reimplacement of the sugar . You may add that this way no tonly it willallow us to have sweeties but it does heals you both too so she is the nuturer as well as the health keeper ? And you may buy a bag of xylitol for her next try for cancaies cakes or wich ever asking her to uses this instead of sugar ? And excercize (any kind) is also a good way to detox it from your system. : ) > > HELP!! Hi Barbara, Just in case you didn't know, generally chocolate is quite toxic to most dogs, so the trash-can might be a better destination for brownies with M & Ms, etc.Be well,Léna thanks marie, but sisters and i have talked to her about xylitol, but she forgets. we buy things for her, but she uses a box mix. she doesn't like the taste of xylitol, so won't use it. don't worry too much about this, as i said HELP! kind of as a joke, as she is doing it again. it is not going to stop with her, she can't remember what we told her about it yesterday. so i dumped some in the garbage and like i said, my husband and dog enjoyed the rest. i escaped with only a few bites so did ok. i understand, again, that it will not change as the family has tried. she doesn't want to change and doesn't remember about changing. my sister said after visiting that mom doesn't understand the reasoning for changing sooooo. here we are. not much we can do without total control and that won't happen for a while. i'l just continue to say 'thanks mom' and dump it when she leaves. thanks for caringbarbara Hi Barbara, What abotu givign the website for xylitol to you mother and asking her next time to buy it on line this kind of product that fit your health condition ? the reis candies chocolate and pure xylitol as a reimplacement of the sugar . Barbara, don't quote me on this but I think I've read dogs are not supposed to

have xylitol either. I think it gives them the runs!....So don't give them the

pie if u use it, or you will have a big mess! Just warning you in advance.

OK everybody!!!!  i love my dog.  she is the center of our world.  i would never do anything to hurt her.  soooo, here is the plan.she will no longer get any brownies - not even the tiny last bite that she usually gets of everything.

baking chocolate -  mom only uses packages mixes which are probably mostly white sugar and flour.xylitol - mom doesn't/won't use it.lemon pie with xylitol - i'm too selfish to share this.

IF mom does bring over more chocolate goodies, just in case there is too much baking chocolate, my dog will not get it.  it will have to go to my husband who has no problem with chocolate, sugar, or xylitol.

thanks for loving/protecting my dog.  she is the coolest.barbara i was just

Replacing the parents sugar with xylitol is a great idea It looks and tastes like sugar. If the brownies are made with baking chocolate ( you know the pure baking chocolate) please dont give this to dogs.It has an enzyme that can kill a dog if it eats too much of it.Regular chocolate usually wont hurt a dog because it has so many other ingredients that it waters it down, but baking chocolate has a high concentration of whatever the enzyme is.

Jodie Xylitol will give many people diarrhea if you eat/drink too much of it ,not just dogs
