I do have allergies and had sinus surgery in 91 for chronic sinus problems but my Maxillary sinuses were the only ones that WERE ok. Now the MRI shows severe disease. I am having another one done on the 29th of this month so we will see what that shows. I am wondering about the coincidence thing too. L(MI) >>> Oh boy! DOn't I feel like a member of the sinus gang! Guest guest
Judy, I've wondered about sinus and inner ear trouble, that was the first problem that I saw a Dr about. He prescribed Zithromax for 5-6 days, and 3 days after the prescription ended the Lyme took off! Jim
Guest guest
I can always tell when I am about to have a flare because my sinuses start hurting and I get the dreaded sinus headache/eye ache. I've found that Tylenol Sinus med. really does help. Ann (TX)
Guest guest
Hi Judy, the only thing that helps me with lyme is Zithromax. had to go off it a few months back, severe sinus and other infection. the lyme got really bad. It is weird how Zith does not help my sinus, but works well on lyme? go figure? Connie, MI

Guest guest
Sue: Thank you so much for posting this article. I am one of those who suffers from chronic sinusitis, which my doctor attacks with a different antibiotic every 6 weeks or so. None of these abx has helped the condition. Additionally, I've had what the dermatologist wants to believe is folliculitis on my scalp that will NOT go away. Carol (Cslyme) has shared with me that this is also probably yeast or some sort of fungus and that she attacks it with loads of acidophilus, which I just picked up before reading your post. Now I'm thinking that the acidophilus may help both conditions better than anything else I've tried. At any rate, I'm giving it a shot and will let you know. I am printing this article out to take to my PCP. Thanks again!! (Michigan)
Guest guest
Thanks Sue, My recent Brain MRI showed acute bilateral maxillary sinusitis, as well as two more lesions (now have 3) so this was of special interest to me, makes a lot of sense as I knew I was allergic to dust and molds, and take Zyrtec daily to help with this....but obviously it is not working. Guest guest
>Additionally, I've had what the dermatologist wants to believe is >folliculitis on my scalp that will NOT go away. Carol (Cslyme) has shared I actually had to have scalp biopsies done ~8 yrs ago. The dx ruled out cancer, and said the lesions were due to 2 kinds of psoriatic conditions. For whatever reason, the dermatologist decided to treat these w/abx - which didn't help at all. At that time, I tried acidophilus, tea tree oil, pau d'arco, etc. (Course, now I know that I need to use a lot more acidophilus than I did back then.) Oddly, these finally began going away after starting to use Xanax (coincidentally - due to my reaction to Zoloft, for depression). They disappeared completely! But a nurse I know, at the time, said she'd gotten something very similar from wrapping up her hair while it was wet - said she had a heck of a time getting rid of it, so I'd have to assume it could very easily be related to yeast/mold/fungi;-( Not sure what your places look like, but I've got little red bumps on my upper arms (mostly) that my LLMD said are most likely due to the HGE + HME. (These are nothing like my scalp lesions.) My youngest nephew (and son) have the same bumps, and his pediatrician says there's some kind of hereditary condition that causes this (forget the name, but it's got follicula... in it;-) He's got him using some kind of lactic acid for his bumps - can't wait to see if it works, but am afraid if it does, sis will stop considering getting him tested for Lyme - despite having had several ticks on him, at various times. Anyway, good luck, ! Sue
Guest guest
>PLEASE,PLEASE just TRY MSM. kay, Thanks - hehe, I just started this a week ago. At the time, I was trying to break a very bad low-back pain cycle - hadn't read about MSM for yeast, etc, at that point. I'd added OPCs (from grape seed extract, for connective tissues) first, having heard from various people that it's really helped them - sinuses, allergies, etc. I don't think the OPC helped my sinus congestion (still using ~300 mg/day of guaifenisin, for that), but I do think it's partly responsible for my decrease in lower-back pain. It became more dramatic once I added the 2000 mg of MSM. But I'm also taking ~2200 mg/day of marshmallow root (as a substitute for the higher guaifenisin dose I'd been on). It's mucilaginous, and mucous is flowing more freely, now;-) I do think that xtra acidophilus has helped my sinuses, and just discovered that the milk thistle I'm taking to protect my liver might've also helped reduce my back pain. Guest guest
I took MSM for 6 months without noticing any difference in my sinuses or my lower back pain, which my main reason for taking it. Perhaps it's more >effective in combination with other things? , That's what I'm thinking, too. The OPC's supposed to build up, in the beginning, but even after a week on it, I felt minimal relief. Then I added the MSM (1000 mg, to start with), and after feeling unsure as to whether I was getting relief or not, I checked about safe MSM dosages, and added another 1000 mg/day. The day after doing that, I felt significant relief from my lower back pain. Now I'm running low on OPCs & so am taking less, still taking the 2000 mg/day of MSM, but the back pain's increased again. ('Course, I'm trying to keep in mind it's close to my time of the month, too;-) Maybe it's just a fluke - but since I hadn't had any relief for the past 8 mos, I kinda doubt it. I'll pick up more OPCs today or tomorrow, and increase them back up to see if that was the magic combo;-) I guess it might also matter what the source of the back pain is? (In my case, I don't know.) Guest guest
Kay - For your kids - did you ask your pediatrician about it - what did he/she say, and what dosage are you giving the kids (based upon age/weight??). Thanks because this sounds like what my daughter needs. Did I read somewhere that the sinusitis could actually be caused by candida?? Sorry so many questions but it sounds like you know what you're talking about here.!!!... Guest guest
hi vicki, no, i never asked any doctor, i just researched and found that it was water soluble (will not accumulate in the body) and tried it. i always recommend doctors try it though when i list meds to them, so they all know we are taking it. i could get off on a HUGH stinking doctor rampage right now, but i will control myself. ( and write a new post after this!) lol we take 1000mg. twice per day. have for over a year, maybe even 2. meredith weighed about 50 lbs and max weighed about 130 lbs and i weighed about 142 when we started. we are all a lot heavier now! we still take the same dose. i think brands are very important. the brand i just picked up is tablet and just something off the shelf, GNC is what we usually take, it comes in a capsule. hope this helps. let me know if you need more info. Guest guest
Larry, if this is a fungus...not bacteria ....does it need an anti-fungal? or maybe this is a combo infection of fungus and bacteria? evidently a person in lyme-aid got 'relief' and recovery from sinusitis with i.v. Rochephin....why has this not been implemented..???? i have late-stage lyme...only have taken oral ABX's/5 months.. like you ..i feel the docs ...are not paying attenition to this.like its a samll anyoance like a headache .i've presented this sinus issue to 7 medical doctors... come on...guess i'll have to start screaming and demanding that 'something' be done...gees.......i am seeing an ENT at cedar's ...he has me do nasal irrigation ...i don't think that's gonna do it....alone...it helps but not for a 7 month lingering symptoms and face pain... thanks cherlyme In a message dated 6/11/00 9:34:40 AM, larryy@... writes: <<Sue, Yes the Mayo (ugh) did a study finding that 90% of chronic sinus infections are caused by a fungus. Guest guest
My suggestion would be to try and stop ALL dairy & cheese products for at least month and see if that makes a difference. The casein protein in milk products is highly allergenic. When I stopped dairy after a few weeks I could actually breathe adequately through my nose, something I had never been able to do up to that point. Until then, since childhood, I had incorrectly assumed that I had small nasal passages. E. At 10:09 PM 12/2/2003, Talia Ortiz wrote: >Does anybody in this group suffer from sinus problems?. Guest guest
Talia, This article might help. When anyone in our family gets a sinus infection, in place of the saline solution, we use a colloidal silver solution in the irrigator. If you have an infection in your sinuses you need to treat the lungs as well. We use colloidal silver in a nebulizer to reach the lungs. Guest guest
I agree. I used to take decongestants daily, had sinus headaches all the time with congestion. I always had Sudafed on hand. Since changing my diet and eliminating dairy products I rarely have any problems. Instead of daily problems its once or twice a year that I have any kind of congestion. Guest guest
Hi Talia, I know for me, I also had the same problem into ap.I was told sinus can be bacterial BUT also allergies and for me it was fungus! Are you treating yeast because that did help me. Also, some claim the use of a neti pot helps a lot as it irrigates the sinus. I also find when things are nasty, I get colliodal silver and use that( spray) just a few days as it has natural antibiotic qualities. Guest guest
Some people have used grapefruit seed extract successfully. Nutrobiotics puts out a nasal spray. It's pretty cheap, too. I use a neti pot to rinse out the sinuses. I use sea salt without iodine and make the solution to the saltiness of tears. Guest guest
a Have you tried flushing out your sinuses with salt water? You would be amazed at what comes out when you do that. 1/4 tsp of kosher or sea salt in a cup of warm water. The last time I had a sinus infection I went to my chiropractor and he did 2 sessions of accupuncture and it was gone in 2 days! I blew out a lot of stuff and it was just gone. I also found out that sometimes when I thought I was having sinus problems it was really a migraine. It can mimic it with a stuffy nose and just pain on one side of the face. Mine was always on my left side and would also wrap around my ear. magnesium helps that and getting your candida in control. Guest guest
Thanks, Jean! I do flush with salt water. I have nose washings, which is natural and cleansed seawater under pressure, so that it will come very far into your sinuses. It helps a bit. I also had a bath with salt from the Dead Sea and put my head in it and took it in. That helped too. The migraine pains I have never experienced, but it is the same pain. That could be the problem too, but I'm pretty sure it is a sinusitis, for it shows on the radios that were made by the dentist. The acupuncture, I'm thinking about that as well. I had to wait until the new year, for I'm out of refunds on that part. And my money is disappearing fast with all these troubles. So I will make another appointment with my acupuncturist asap. For the moment I'm on megadoses of vit C. I'll add some more magnesium, I've got citrate at home. Good idea. a a Have you tried flushing out your sinuses with salt water? Guest guest
Argie and Joan, Thanks for your advice. I stopped giving my son egg because I felt that could be the culprid for his sinus problems, even when it was not shown in the ELISA test that he was allergic to egg. He has not had eggs for a week and the sinusitis is gone already. Now I am certain is the egg and also realized that testing is not 100% accurate.
