in the early *2000s* i became quite ill and in 07 found out we both hadlyme and cos. and many health issues.Hi Barbara .I would say that yes its likely that mold has affected your health.Im in process of moving out of the house I rented for the last year after having mold issues hit the winter in the rented house.I had a sinus infection for 10 months so until that finally started clearing up,I couldnt smell it.Now ive got another sinus infection while in the process of moving. The way I feel while being in the environment of mold is that I could barely function.I laid on the couch or my recliner all day , very very little exertion made me exhausted .I definitely can tell the difference in being in my new living environment and when Im at the old house ,sorting and packingI know that there is only blood tests for a particular mold. The other way to test which mold your body has is with vials of different molds and muscle testing.Itwill at minimum tell you what you are reactive to and if it has entrenched in your body .Id then do herbs that help eliminate molds .Ozone is a real helper.one of the small ozone machines that you can get on ebay works well for brief period. For instance I will run mine for 30 minutes in my bedroom before going to bed.My room air seems much clearer. It also eliminates smells in the room janis this enough water/wet/mold environment to cause a mold issue?introductions to moldy areas are followed by sickness both times for me.could there be mold issues with us?? how do we go about finding a dx?tests or symptom dx? what do we do about it if so?thanks for anyone's input.barbara"Im not trying to counsel any of you to do anything

Hi, Barbara-

I'm one of the " mold " people. Some of the symptoms overlap those of Lyme, tho I

found the dizziness, vomiting, non-stop migraines and severe, chronic bronchitis

(coughing to the point of losing bladder control), and greatly increased

multiple chemical sensitivities to be distinctly mold-related in my case.

The mold master is Shoemaker and his book " Mold Warriors " is the primary read,

tho I find it quite terrifying. I don't want the image in my head of not being

able to heal, but he does talk about his protocol.

I was able to find a practitioner in western Mass. who consults with him, and

she ran a series of tests looking for the markers that he has found correlate

with mold sensitivities and mold illness. (They're listed in the book, but it's

easier to work with a practitioner.)

Aside from getting out of the mold-contaminated office, she put me on

cholestyramine from a compounder and it was shocking how quickly (within days) I

felt it start to work, even though it was many months before I stopped

staggering and almost falling. (Part of the theory is that if you're sensitive

to mold toxins, your body also doesn't eliminate them effectively, and this

helps. However, the commercially available version contains so many

additives...artificial colors and sweeteners...that it provoked vomiting

migraines. One step forward, 2 steps....)

2 good, practical books I found were from Jeff May. I would recommend " healthy

home tips " first and " mold survival guide " second. He talks about mold from a

scientist's point of view, which makes it less terrifying and more interesting,

and has pragmatic suggestions for the types of prevention and remediation that

are reasonably within a normal person's ability. I've read pros and cons about

using ozone to kill molds; I don't think the effectiveness is as thorough as it

needs to be if you are truly mold sensitive.

It's pretty shocking that there's so little understanding of the impact of mold

contamination on health and even more discouraging that there is no OSHA

standard for mold in the workplace. That's on my list of things to try to

remedy. After I'm able to get the Lyme & friends to loosen their grip.

Best regards,

Fifi

fifi, thanks for the info.  i know i don't like chemical smells.  can't stand the fertilizer smell in the spring when they bring it into stores.  but i don't get physically ill with it either.  don't know yet how many symptoms i do have for it, or if i could even tell because of all the other symptoms of everything else.

everyone is mentioning shoemaker so i guess he is the dr to learn from. not sure about taking the cholestyramine as it is constipating, and my gut does not function and that would greatly add to the problem.  someone mentioned an alternative, so may look into that.  will look into the other 2 books also.

it is amazing that osha has not done anything about mold either.  i think there has been something in the school though, isn't there?  or was that asbestos?  thanks again,

barbara
