Kindly Marie To: Lyme_and_Rife Sent: Saturday, March 10, 2012 9:22 AM Subject: Re: Re: A Long Lyme Journey and Flagyl update hi Barbara,I had a very similar experience last fall with diarrhea, 105 fever, delirium, near death. the doc thought I had an ecoli infection, as it had started as a bladder infection. How did you treat the c difficil? I was given and took some serious anti-biotics. My gut continues to be a mess, and I'm contemplating trying out kefir grain implants, which Dom talks about on his kefir site, as helping him get over colitis. One more lab-rat adventure coming up!!!Suzy c difficil is a bacteria that can get into your gut and is kept under control until you take an abx. about 20% of the population carries it at any time. when you take an abx, it starts making you feel better for whatever you are taking it for, then about 4-5 days into it the gut disbiosis begins and the c. diff. flourish- opportunistic bug. it is bad. 104 1/2 temp, diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, can't keep anything in or down. you feel like you're dying, and may if not stopped. usually people pick it up in the hospital. don't know where i did. passed through feces. that makes me feel creepy when i think of how i may have gotten it. anyway, i had taken abx for a sinus infected (and feeling sick) while in s.d. and didn't want to fly back because the altitude can affect the pressure in the head with an infection. so went to dr. there 2 days before i left. when i got home was better then got really sick. 2 e.r. visits. first one gave me fluids and sent me home, said it was the flu. by the time i went again, 4 days later, was so sick couldn't stand up and they let me sit in the waiting room with that temp for 3 hrs. ended up incoherent and had to take me back in a wheel chair. dr. said he would stake his life on the fact that it was the flu. i knew it was more and refused to go home because i knew i would be back, or not make it.. they kept me and called in an infectious disease dr who knew right away what it was. guess my symptoms were classic--that of following an abx. used flagyl for 3 wks., then after a couple days off started fever and sick again. this went on for 8 months before it was gone. following this time i began to get really chronically ill, beyond the fibro i had. for a long time we thought it was the flagyl had caused permanent damage. but as i look back, when i was in s.d., we had taken a day trip to mn. i started feeling fluish that day. it was odd because i don't get the flu. then the head cold thing. so, we think that the flu thing was actually lyme taking hold. months before we had been clearing our land here, and if i contracted lyme then, the timing may be been right for that flu thing to have been lyme. then the c. diff. followed, which really tears up your gut. after that, gradually started on those crazy 30 minute attacks, got sicker and sicker with what i know now is lyme symptoms. so with a severely compromised immune system from the c.diff., the lyme had a really good start. and it was down hill from there. i understand that there is a more virulent strain of c. diff that is out now. there are better abx for it now though. which will make it a stronger strain later. so if you hear of anyone with getting worse after a few days of abx treatment, with g.i. issues and high fever, suggest c.diff and get tested and treated right away. i think if the e.r. dr knew what she should have know, the classic symptoms, not the flu, i would have been treated sooner and had less problems. but that is c.diff. really bad stuff. so wash those veggies and fruit really good. and don't touch you mouth after touching stuff in public. ones gets a little paranoid after that, but lots of people are being more cautious now days. barbara Well Barbara, Flagyl does have side effects, including killing off the friendly bacteria. And LD can become immune to it. I think 8 months is far too long to be on any antibiotic, but most of the LLMD's prescribe that way. What is c.difficil?
