Guest guest
Hi Vicki- It isn't common but not unheard of for food sensitivities to increase, or be unmasked, early on in the protocol, but usually not so 'across the board' like that. I would have to suspect other triggers. First, is there pink dye in the Diflucan - even the very pale pink pills? Or is he on the liquid one with the strong flavoring? If your child is reactive to that pink dye, it can set him off so that tons of other things trigger it too. With PANDAS, you may have to avoid probiotics at this time. I think I've talked about that with you before ... sounds like he's already off them... (not everyone has to avoid them, but a few of us get worse - they trigger te wrong immune reaction). Sugars - or rather the insulin response TO sugar - has been shown to have a direct effect on the immune system, setting off some cascades of cytokines or interleukins - the details don't stick with me. I could try to find it next week when I get home if you'll remind me. But anyway, insulin's effect on the immune system could be one reason low carb low sugar diets are so helpful. So if he's reacting so badly to sugars, it may have anything to do with yeast (feeding it, so to speak), but rather a very hot immune system right now. (Again, pink dye could do that). Usually most kids can tolerate Diflucan, and a lot of times they can tolerate the trace dye ... would you let me know if you're already getting it compounded dye-free? It really affected my son badly. In me, it can trigger gastritis (inflammation of the stomach like an allergy reaction - very painful, helped a lot by tiny sips of dye-free liquid benedryl every couple of hours during an attack, and useful as a preventative). If worst came to worst and things don't improve, would your doc consider switching to Nizoral for a while to see if it really is the Diflucan? Even if it is, odds are you could return to it again later. I may have only heard of one or two kids in several years who just couldn't take it, and even then I'd bet there was another factor involved. With the kind of outbursts you describe, I'd check to see if he's getting soy lecithen or other soy protein (that excludes soybean oil - that's fine) ... and also check to see if his pupils seem a little dilated even in bright light (like half size instead of constricting) .... But the foods you describe as tolerated are about what my oldest tolerated early on too, but that got much better eventually - so there's hope, and hang in there! Guest guest
and gfcfsf > brownies caused aggressive freaking out in the classroom > that I had to pick him up from school. This happened to us too and it turned out to be the brown sugar and brown rice used in the mix.
