are you seeing a doctor, too? If not, its

important to know that medical issues (ie.

viruses/yeast/allergies) need to be addressed first,

which may greatly reduce perseveration...then the SSRI

comes next for anxiety.

I thought Dr. G uses the SSRIs to increase blood flow to the temporal lobes. I

didn't know about anxiety since it is done in very low doses.

Could you please clarify this for me?

Thanks,

Yes we are tring this and im sure it is effecting my sons sleep - He is awake

most of the night.

For us it is not wprking - it stil aggravtes his anxiety rather than lower it -

which is why we stopped Prozac.

Do you mind if I ask what dose he's on (and how much he weighs)? Also, does he

take it morning or evening?

Thanks for your feedback.

I was told its does still help with anxiety and OCD

behaviors because the brain is getting the blood flow

it needs.

But I can't speak for others. We did Lexapro for a

few weeks and my daughter didn't do well and we found

we had to address the emreging allergy issues first.

Honestly I feel like I don't know very much anymore.

In theory things sound great but on paper its a lot

more complicated!!!

Hi ,

We are seeing a doctor (in Denver), but are currently taking a break from

the protocol. After a year and a half of using Valtrex--which brought down my

son's HHV6 count significantly--we still weren't sure we were seeing a

benefit/improvement in his behavior. So, we decided to take a break and have

more bloodwork done in six months to see if the count goes back up.

My son has been on an SSRI (Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, and back to Prozac)

since he was five. He's now twelve. All the SSRIs have helped him with

perseveration and " getting stuck. " We are looking for one to better address his

anxiety (mainly over what he's supposed to do, understanding what the plan is,

missing social queues). His doctor is suggesting we give Celexa a try, but I

know very little about it.

My son has an Asperger Syndrome with comorbid ADHD diagnosis.

Hope this helps explain our situation.

Regards,

I found a good article that helps explain the relationship between SSRIs, brain

blood flow, depression and possibly anxiety and OCD.

Hi ,

Will has never been able to tolerate the SSRIs at higher doses (he becomes more

agitated/active and disinhibited--not good for an already impulsive kid), but

the low dose seems enough to make him less rigid/perseverative. This seems to

be typical of some kids on the spectrum, whom the meds weren't created for, but

still may benefit from them.

Hi ,

Thanks for the information about Dr. . Right now our

12-year-old son is in the day treatment program in the Boulder Valley

School District, so he sees their psychiatrist, Dr. Matos, through

Boulder County Mental Health. She does not know about , but it's

something we're thinking about pursuing.

Our son's diagnoses are bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PDD-NOS. He also has

sensory, auditory, and visual processing difficulties. He gets sick a

lot. He's been home sick for the last seven WEEKS with sore throat,

abdominal pain, elevated pancreatic and liver enzymes, body aches, ear

pain (no infection), headache, and intermittent chills and low-grade

fever. We've had a ton of tests and blood work done, but the doctors

can't figure out what's wrong with him. He feels awful and just lies on

the couch most of the day. Monday morning we head to Children's Hospital

(again) in Denver to see the head of the gastroenterology department.

Hopefully he'll figure out what's going on and help our son get better.

That's probably a lot more than you wanted to hear :), but it helped to

share.

Thanks,

Anybody have experience with Celexa?

Hello,

My son's psychiatrist is interested in switching him from Prozac (5 mg) to

Celexa (10 mg), which I know nothing about, except that it's another SSRI. She

is trying to better address both his perseveration/getting stuck and his

anxiety.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My daughter gradually became very suicidal while she was taking Celexa.

She was taken off before any actions in that direction occured.

She would say things like she would not like to grow up, nothing like an intent

but after she was off them and had resolved her pain problem. She told me how

close she had really been.
