-Can I ask why Dr. G wants you to stay away from rice milk. I am

generally new to but have been dairy free for years.

He doesn't want any brown rice used and the rice milk is made from

partially milled brown rice. According to the company, this makes it

mostly to all white rice. But he wants us to change. I think what

it comes down to is that he is not happy we are still gluten

free. But our girl is doing incredibly well, a big part thanks to

him, so I'm trusting his opinion about this.

We use soy milk for cereal. As far as calcium is concerned, the only thing we

can do is supplement. It's not ideal but better than nothing.

All the best,

The kids don't need calcium supplements.  Don't let that be a concern right now

- it isn't necessary, and Dr G will monitor his calcium levels at every

lab.  Too much calcium may even be a negative - I can't remember how it was

broken down for me a long time ago, but there seems to be a calcium channel

defect in autism, and the way our bodies process it probably isn't correct

anyway.  It is totally against the mainstream paradigm that a certain amount of

calcium is crucial.

If you really really feel like your child must have enough calcium, making

homemade broths from chicken bones and beef bones that you let boil for hours

(with an acidic starter like a tsp of lemon juice or vinegar that you soak the

bones in with water for half an hour before starting to boil) will provide

calcium and good cooking too, and may have some gut healing properties.

I just did a diet log for Dr. G. He's fine with the Vance's DairiFree.

I just wish my son liked it as much as he liked Rice Dream. Right now

I can put the Vance's on cereal, but that's pretty much the only way

he'll tolerate it. I've had to find other ways to get calcium into him.

It helps me to think that mother cows are not designed to drink milk... they

get all of their calcium from their veggies.

Robyn,

Dr. G told me a long time ago that we don't need to worry about the calcium

level in boys. I never supplemented Calcium.

My kids loved almond milks as well and we had to give it up.
