Hi,

Have you considered getting the Immunovir compounded into liquid by a

compounding pharmacy?

Subject: About to start Imunovir -- need help!

Okay, so our three-month supply of Imunovir arrived today. It is a capsule with

powder inside. During the week, my son is supposed to take 1/2 of the contents

of each capsule four times a day, and one whole capsule at bedtime; and 1/2 and

1 (two doses) on weekend days. He doesn't swallow pills yet because of his

over-reactive gag reflex (we've tried the pill-swallowing cup...worthless). I

normally administer meds for him in a tablespoon of non-dairy frozen dessert.

My problem is dosing during the week. That many doses will require having meds

administered at school. They will have to break open the capsule and give him

half of the powder, and they can't exactly give it to him in frozen dessert!

Plus, are they prepared to store the rest of the powder and give it to him the

next day? The thought of someone else administering meds to (and there's

no full-time nurse there; meds are usually dispensed by an aide) really makes me

nervous.

Those of you doing Imunovir with your kids...how do you deal with meds being

administered at school?

TIA,

Donna

Yes, from Rivex Pharma; Dr. G is now sending everyone to them because they have

the best price.

Oops, my mistake! Blame it on my terrible eyesight -- they are caplets

(tablets shaped like capsules).

Still -- I don't know how I'm going to work out the issue with having it

administered at school.

Hi Cheryl,

With shipping and handling, it was $260.00 (US) for 300 tablets -- a three

months' supply.

Rivex Pharma is the Newport Pharmaceuticals (Immunovir manufacturer in

Dublin) official distributor in Canada and were recommended to us by

Newport's General Manager a couple of months ago. Newport used to ship

directly, however due to new European Community regulations, drug

manufacturers in Europe are not allowed to supply directly to consumers in

efforts to stop the drug counterfeiting trade.

Rivex are very efficient - takes less than 5-7 days to send it by Express

Mail. Cost is $100CN for 100 x 500mg tablets plus $30 CN shipping. Maximum

order is 3 months worth with a supervising Doctors prescription and cover

letter. Costs us $330CN or $270US for three months..a lot less I believe

than through the on-line pharmacies.

Dr Golberg's office has all the pro-forma paperwork need, and fax the

prescriptions to Rivex.

Wow, I guess they finally found a place with a decent price! I think

that's a much better price than $300/month! Let us know how it goes.

A compounding pharmacy would be great, if I could find one locally. I live in

Hey Donna,

Burns Pharmacy on Lancaster Bl. is a compounding pharmacy. I use to get

progesterone compounded by them when I was pregnant.

All the best,

Robyn

p.s. Sorry the pill cup didn't work. Did you use Oraflo? I used it to teach both

Noah and Elijah with great success. Elijah has a gag reflex but only for

vegetables. Just goes to show you how different they all are.

That's great news. Elijah has low NK cells; kind of wondering if we're going to

have to add immunovir at some point.

Hey, Robyn, thanks for the tip on the pharmacy! :)

Yes, we used the Oraflo cup. The pill would just get stuck right there in the

little tube -- it would dissolve, and also, probably because 's tongue

would stop the darn thing from flowing into his mouth! I'm impressed that you

were able to get it to work!

's been swallowing pills since he was four. He just did it by himself. I

bought the Oraflo when teaching Noah to swallow pills. He took quite a bit of

work and Elijah learned after the second or third try. Once they learned,

though, none of them wanted to use the pill cup any more.
