Guest guest
My son had this, and it ended up being microplasmic pneumonia, which can hang on and on. He had to be on antibiotics for about 3 months, as far as I can remember. Dr. G ran a blood test, and it showed up. Barb Katsaros barbkatsaros@... From: Robyn <rngcoggs@...> Subject: Persistent Cough Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 7:18 PM Has anyone else had trouble getting rid of a persistent cough after a diagnosis of bronchitis? I have three kids who've been coughing a long time--once since the end of December. Mostly now it's first thing in the morning, a little at night but nothing that prevents or disturbs sleep, and definitely during physical activity. My oldest has been out of PE for three weeks now. I'm starting to get concerned. I'm sending my updates to Dr. G tomorrow for and Elijah because they've finished the antibiotic. Noah still has a few more days. This is Elijah's second course. Any similar experiences? TIA, Robyn

Guest guest
I second the experience w/ mycoplasma pneumonia bacteria (does not mean they actually have pneumonia). I can keep mycoplasma for years, but that's because I had never completed antibiotics back then. I had been diagnosed and was being treated for asthma w/no results for at least 10 years, and Dr G diagnosed me over the phone in seconds ( " That's not asthma, that's a mycoplasma cough " ) - a turning point in my health, too! You do have to have specific antibiotics to address it if it's mycoplasma, but nothing major. A lot of times they rx an antibiotic for bronchitis that will automatically cover mycoplasma anyway. Anyway, you can do a lab for it to check. Even after you do get rid of mycoplasma, you can still have airway reactivity/inflammation (especially upper airway) that will cause a lingering cough sometimes long after it's gone. If it was mycoplasma (proven by labs), then you do go ahead and treat it w/antibiotics while the cough hangs in, because you can't really confirm/tell if the bacteria is still really there or not. But I think I can tell by the cough itself ... mycoplasma tended to have a slightly 'productive' wet cough w/occasional spasms, whereas the irritation after it was gone tended to be dry, raspy, with a tightness. Wheezing is also a sign of lingering mycoplasma (so I urge all parents whose children are under care for asthma to ask once in a while for a mycoplasma test), but it's also common w/just about any other bronchitis infection too. It's just ... a little different. Probably way too much info! lol ________________________________ From: Barb Katsaros <barbkatsaros@...> Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2009 10:53:07 PM Subject: Re: Persistent Cough My son had this, and it ended up being microplasmic pneumonia, which can hang on and on. Guest guest
No such as too much information (at least not where this stuff is concerned, LOL). It's interesting to hear you describe the cough. 's cough has gone from that wet cough to a dry, raspy cough. He said it's scratchy. I'm definitely going to have the conversation with Dr. G. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Darlene, This isn't related to Candida however it might help. A few years ago, I had an 'allergy' from inhaling mould spores, as I had sanded a bathroom door which was covered in mould and I stupidly didn't wear a face mask. However it gave me a fever and developed into a persistent booming, mostly dry cough (sometimes phlegm) which lasted about a couple months. I guess it was my body trying to heal itself and I thought at the time that it wouldn't go away, but eventually it did. So I'm hoping that with your daughter, her cough will improve and eventually go away. It's just funny that it can stay with you for a while. Have you tried garlic? I think that is good for the lungs and I took supplements when I had my cough. All the best, > > Hi Bee, > My 11 year old daughter has been coughing for about 4 weeks now. I am giving her adult dosages of the supplements, epsom salt baths with eucalyptus oil and oil of oregano(I added this recently due to her cough being so severe-should I eliminate it? She only takes 1 T. of coconut oil daily.) She reaches bowel tolerance with Vitamin C at about 2,000mg. She may go hours without coughing and then she will violently cough and sometimes bring up a small amount of relatively clear mucus. Other times she may have a coughing spell several times within an hour. I am assuming this is die off. Because her coughing is so harsh and loud, I am reluctant to take her out much. People are so afraid of " catching " something. She has missed things for a month now. If I didn't school her at home she would be a month behind as they don't want anyone in school who sounds like this. Other than the violent cough, she is doing OK. She has had a small amount of congestion at times but it seems to come and go. > Do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do for her? She is sooo tired of coughing and missing out on everything. If it was a " normal " cough it wouldn't be so bad but the coughing is so severe she at times loses her breath. She has never had a cough like this before. > Thanks for any advice you can give. > Darlene B. >

Could you please re-post your message for me later on? She leaves Sunday afternoon. Thanks a bunch, Bee > > Hi Bee, > My 11 year old daughter has been coughing for about 4 weeks now. The reason I ask is because that kind of violent coughing can occur when a person ingests a toxic substance like soy, which is found is so many processed foods. There are many other toxins in foods too, like MSG and all MSG-like substances that have many different names and many chemicals. +++If she isn't able to take 6 T of coconut oil, you shouldn't add oil of oregano. <snip> > Do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do for her?
