Guest guest
Hi All, My son(9) has been on Famvir & antibiotic(septra) for about 5wks now. When we first started he was really miserable...agitated, sleep disturbance, lots of screaming(struggles with expressive language),covering ear almost all day, very unsocial etc. etc. He seemed very in pain all the time. About a week ago he started to have better sleep and less screaming, a little happy and we were so excited. Dr.G. had told me to expect that also. But that seemed to last a couple days and now we're back on the screaming, severe sound issues, less appetite, waking up at 1am or 2am and just stay wide awake until 5 or so and back to sleep for about 1 or 2hrs & wakes again with irritability. Not sure what's causing all this. He's also on claritin & takes kyodiphilus..could those be problems or maybe the famvir is aggrevating something??? Our phone consult is next week, but just wanted to hear from you if you had the same experience w/famvir & antibiotic. I feel there's also a yeast flare up. I think Dr.G. will start us on antifungal on our next consult. Also, I wanted to ask are some of you on a g/f diet?? I'm suspecting that it may be a problem also, not that we see a clear reaction, but just wondering??!! His food allergy showed very high on gluten/wheat, but Dr.G. suggested to not do g/f & stick w/white processed bread. We've been on and off with g/f for years in the past. Please share your experiences. Thank you so much. God bless
Guest guest
Dr. G really knows our kiddos, and has helped mine tremendously. It does sound like yeast. Is your son off dairy and soy? The soy protein is very similar to casein (cow milk protein), so my son does well off both. He gets limited white processed wheat (so he's not GF, but he was for 3 years), and does fine with it. Guest guest
It does sounds like yeast. I know that when kids are in Valtrex (another antiviral medication) it is recommended that they are also in an antifungal (Diflucan, Nizoral) to avoid a yeast infection. You need to ask Dr. G about the antifungal medication and also I would ask about probiotics since your son has been on antibiotics for 5 weeks. Guest guest
My experience with probiotics is that they are helpful for maintenance, but not really for ridding the body of yeast. Guest guest
Getting the immune system healthy is what will control the yeast in the long run. Probiotics is a way to help our children's digestive systems heal and to keep them working efficiently. The reason our children have all these food allergies is because their digestive systems are not digesting the food correctly most likely because the gut lining is damaged. Probiotics and diet will help fix this problem. Now, based on my son's experience our kids need large amounts of probiotics. I give my son Custom Probiotics. www.customprobiotics.com. Dr. G just ordered a second food allergies test because he thinks my son's food allergies must be better based on how my son is doing. The two links have very good information about this subject. What You Need to Know About Probiotics for Yeast That Will Restore Your Health and Immune System to Normal http://www.yeastinfectionadvisor.com/probioticsforyeast.html Food Allergies and probiotics http://www.foodreactions.org/articles/probiotics.html Thanks, JR From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Kristy Nardini Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 12:33 AM Subject: RE: Famvir-not helping?? Guest guest
could it be the claritin? Guest guest
has been on Allegra and we noticed some irritability, so we switched to Zyrtec. So far so good. Joab could be going through viral die off, which could cause the problems you've described. The nighttime awakenings are what Noah goes through and I attribute that to either viral or fungal die off. You may want to try some melatonin. It usually works for Noah. Let us know what happens. All the best, Robyn > > > Hi All, > > > > My son(9) has been on Famvir & antibiotic(septra) > > for about 5wks > > now.
