Doing the research is really where / how you'll find the answers.

Unfortunately, most doctors are trained in medicine NOT in health.

Every time I present my program, Autism Awareness: From Suspicion to

Success, I receive the kinds of questions (from doctors) that validate

this.

My hat is off to for what she is doing to inform the world about

Autism. My next book, Autism or Asperger's Syndrome? One Mother's

Journey in Search of Truth, is in editing right now. It is based on 7

years and 7,000 hours of research that began when my son was non-verbal

And we should also remember that McCarthy's name is only in the headline because

it attracts attention. The article is actually about the work of her son's

pediatrician, Dr. Jerry Kartzinel.

What the point of view really needs is a celebrity spokesperson with the

same kind of name recognition as McCarthy. At least Dr. G and his website

are both referred to in her book.

With respect neither are most of the parents on this site (and other

relevant support sites) who give advice based on their research and experience

and

who then offer opinions though clearly not on the scale that McCarthy is

able to achieve!

What has become alarmingly clear is that currently there is a 'Global

Epidemic' affecting children that has short and long term devastating and wide

ranging consequences from the very personal human impact right through to

existing infrastructures. Based on current trends with year on year growth

since

the 1980's this epidemic will ultimately likely impact on every human being

on our planet as there seems to be precious little being done by our

Governments or Medics to acknowledge or address the scale of the problem which

logically hampers finding answers and solutions in a cohesive way, what ever

the

cause!

It is equally evident that this crisis is neither entirely genetic or

because of better diagnosing (or similar subjective and often ludicrous views

which

fly in the face of science) as recent research from the Mind Institute

attests to.

It is a sad truth that very often parents and families lead the way out of

sheer desperation in initiating and creating a way forward and McCarthy

is one of them and depending on where you are in your personal journey

through this epidemic and in whom you currently place your trust and support

you

will either like what she says or not.

The reason came into being was directly caused by Dr Goldberg's very

personal family experience

of the impact of immune dysfunction and then being able to see linkage to a

number of developmentally impaired children he was seeing within his

pediatric practice. Dr Goldberg is to be respected for not only making that

connection but also for working to create awareness and to try to develop

solutions

when so many others continue to tell parents there is no solution and there is

no hope. What has also been acknowledged is that the very likely multiple

modality of this illness makes it clear that solutions with a one size fits all

treatment will simply not work for everyone, which is exactly what is

occurring for a number of parents seeking help from some of the current

respected

'maverick' experts! The people who are willing to place their heads above the

parapet such as Dr Goldberg and who collect scientific data need to pool

information and better understand when something works why it does but also

more

importantly why it is not working for others! That way it paves the way for

a less fragmented and more individualised treatment process for the affected

individuals wherever they live but that would take an acknowledgement of the

problem from our elected officials and further for them to then support Dr

Goldberg and others in developing holistic solutions!

Meanwhile McCarthy whatever your view of her continues to raise

awareness of a domestic and global problem in the face of silence from our

Governments.

Robin,

That was exactly my sentiment. I am grateful for the awareness she has created,

I know she really wants to help. And I am not sure, but I wonder how much $$

she gets from selling all of her books and that bothers me too. The truth is,

no one has the " for sure " answer about autism cures/causes yet. And DAN

Protocols don't work for everyone.

My two cents anyways. I don't want people to think ill of me...
