Hi Cath,

You have a persoanl recipe for that Grape Seed and Shea butter

concoction? I am beginning to play around with these for making lotions

and such. I don't much care for chemicals and much prefer using all

natural if at all possible. This is one area I would love to learn all I

can in.

As for soap well, I play around with that too. I do hope that someday I

might actually make a quality bar of soap. Right now I am learning from

mistakes. LOL Here is an url that you might actually find quite useful.

I have joined this group and have found much that is very useful.

They also go into lotions and creams too so you might really like it. I am!

Peace be with you Cath.

My oldest dd got me started on using olive oil to cleanse my face. I really dislike the smell of it, so I use a really light one and add essential oils. :-) I am acne prone so I add a bit of grapefruit seed oil extract, lavender , frankincense and rose oils. You apply to your face, then take a nice warm wash cloth and place it over you face for a few seconds then wash it off.

I use a tone made of witch hazel with rosewood and frankincense oils. I tried some lemon oil in there today, but that was pretty strong.

For a moisturizer I use pure Emu oil. The skin under my eyes was starting to thin due to hormonal changes ( read that AGE ) and Emu oil has been proven to thicken skin! A very good thing as thicker skin makes your under eyes look less dark. :-) It's great on wrinkles too. Oddly enough, my acne has really calmed down. I was sure this routine would cause major problems with the acne, but the opposite has been true.

I added essential oils and some Emu oil to plain old baby oil for use on my entire body as well. Should prolly use something better like almond oil though. :-)

Hi Don

Yes, they are concoctions at this point:) I have only made it twice -

but I make a blender or more full and it lasts a while.

If you are not careful the oil can get into your clothing - yucko.

Used to put grapeseed oil in my bath as Living in Utah, i tend to be

dry. However, I over do it heeheehee. So used to Missouri humidity.

Need to make a sign. Beware - Slippery oiled artist on premises. The

cream/lotion is better.

A couple of years ago I received some shea butter as a gift and when I

went to buy it yikes!!!!!! So i thought I would buy some. I use it to

rub on dry feet that occasionally crack - love to go barefoot. And my

feet heal within a few days if not overnight. I cannot say enough

about it.

Basic recipe I use:

Oil Based

3/4 c almond, apricot or graeseed oil

1/3 c coconut oil or cocobutter (I use shea butter)

1 t lanolin - optional - I am allergic

1/2 ounce grated beeswax

Water based

2/3 distilled water (can replace part with rose water or witch hazel)

1/3 aloe vera gel don't have to use but I do.

fragrances optional

Melt the oil based ingredients slowly in a glass pot. Then pour into

a glass measuring cup until room temp. Should be thick and creamy.

Put the water based ingredients into the the blender at the highest

speed and slowly pour into the blender. Turns whitest in color. I

store in the frig.

Have fun.

Hi Carol

Great idea for cleaning the skin! I too use witch hazel and lemons.

Tightens up my pores!! And put grapeseed oil with lavender or olive

oil in my bath. I love going all natural!!

Will have to try emu oil. Never tried it before. Is it easy to find.

Heck I go to the grocery store for my oils heehee.
