Guest guest
I did watch it. But the show was ended abruptly because of lack of time.I wish there was enough time. Are any of yall watching Dr Phil Show today!?!?!?Sincerely,Robin LittleWhen someone is affected by stomach problems such as bloating, heartburn, gas, and indigestion, the assumption is to take an antacid or other similar over-the-counter remedies to reduce the stomach acid. However, the problem may be just the opposite: there’s not enough stomach acid. Taking an antacid will actually make the problem worse by further reducing the already depleted amount of stomach acid. Why Is Low Stomach Acid Overlooked? Consider that two antacid pills, Nexium® and Prevacid,® totaled $7,523,382,000 in sales for 2009 according to Drugs.com. More information here, and here. Guest guest
My husband recorded it, and we watched it after supper. We both thought the show was well done. They showed a short part of " Under Our Skin " and interviewed 3 Lyme patients, showing videos of them also--all 3 had very severe symptoms and were not diagnosed for years before they could start treatment. Dr. Phil worked very hard to ask questions at the devil's advocate. But when he introduced the 3rd patient, one of his own staff members, he said " I know you, and I know you're not faking. " Her doctor spoke of her frustration in finding treatments to help her patients. An IDSA doctor spoke long-distance, so their position was aired. The first half of the show featured a mother who wanted to end the lives of her children, alive only because of feeding tubes--an important issue. But they could have easily dedicated to whole hour to LD. Guest guest
I thought Dr. Phil did a terrible job--he made the show about whether or not any woman should be believed when she says she has health problems... come on, it has officially been ruled that chronic lyme exists (at least in Massachusetts). Our insurance in NYS for 2 years now covers much of our family of 4's chronic lyme treatment--because the diagnosis is accepted by them (even if they don't cover LLMD, they cover meds and labs). It was also poor of Dr. Phil to only include excerpts from the ID docs in Under Our Skin--again putting more emphasis on questioning the existence of chronic lyme instead of actually discussing it in greater depth. Unfortunately, with stereo types that exist, the white, male ID doc who came in via video will have gotten more credit/respect than the female, foreign, non-white LLMD as well. If anyone has the time, Vostry (the model on the show) has only had 18 responses on her website (the one about her med bills) since the show--and not all of them are supportive of her. It took a lot of guts to sit there while Dr. Phil needlessly focused on being devil's advocate--like a rape victim having to tell her story on trial and in doing so experiences more violation. needs some more supportive comments, and one person mentioned rife to her--and a few other comments on that would be good too. Guest guest
One more little detail--Dr. Phil made 2 of the chronic lyme guests agree with him that a very small group of people end up with this disease when bitten by ticks or mosquitoes, and that it is very "rare" to get so sick--this was also terrible misinformation--when lyme is the fastest growing and most prevalent vector-borne disease in the USA today, and it is all too common to have severe symptoms from it--with many Parkinson's, MS, Lou Gerrick's, chronic fatigue, etc. often misdiagnosed and being chronic lyme disease in reality too... Guest guest
I really wished that the girls who represented Lyme would have had a better answer to why the Western Blot test is inaccurate. They should have told him that it is a test of antibodies to the borrelia bacteria and when the disease has compromised a person'a immune system, that person no longer makes antibodies that show up on the test. Right away, he started asking the Model if these symptoms were all in her head and that many people pretend they are sick to get attention. I hate the fact that psychologists always try to explain away symptoms as all in your head. I think many sick people have been accused of hypochondria when in fact they were really sick. This often happens when doctors have no explanation for an illness or symptoms so it is just easier to blame the patient. I thought that he played devils advocate a little too much. He showed a picture of Dr. Jemsek walking around a corner, but never talked to any of the well know LLMDs like Klinghardt, Burascano, Jemsek, or Cowden who have been treating this disease for years. The MD he had on his show was unheard of and of course the MDs he had representing the other side were directors of Medicine at major Universities in high powered positions. I also wish that he had talked about the fact that the IDSA guidelines have been challenged many times and that the IDSA board was actually changed due to the fact that conflicts of interest were commonplace. I think the whole show should have been dedicated to lyme not just a few minutes of it, even though the Euthanasia issue is also a valid one, it also deserved it's own show. > > > > > Are any of yall watching Dr Phil Show today!?!?!? > > > Sincerely, > > > Robin Little > > > When someone is affected by stomach problems such as bloating, heartburn, gas, and indigestion, the assumption is to take an antacid or other similar over-the-counter remedies to reduce the stomach acid. Guest guest
totally agree. I have no idea where dr. phil came up with his logic about total bites vs. lyme syndrome patients. Hear no evil, see no evil I guess. When he talks about possible faking by a woman who is spontaneously having seizures while filming, it just boggles the mind. She may as well have gone on the maury povich show - what kind of dr. is he? Oh wait, he's a tv dr. worrying about ratings. It also boggles my mind that IDSA stands by their belief that 30 days of doxy eradicates lyme rather than entertaining the notion that perhaps the organism is able to take different forms that are impervious to the abx. But the medical profession has shown throughout history that it will cling to models of disease well past the point when they have been shown to be invalid. At least the show gave a platform to the subject matter and anyone watching with strange symptoms and no dx will consider lyme as a possibility. --Jeff > > > > > Are any of yall watching Dr Phil Show today!?!?!? > > > Sincerely, > > > Robin Little > > > When someone is affected by stomach problems such as bloating, heartburn, gas, and indigestion, the assumption is to take an antacid or other similar over-the-counter remedies to reduce the stomach acid. Guest guest
Dr. Phil also has to worry about his corporate sponsors ... without them he would not be able to have this show at all. So he has to bend over backwards to appear to them that he is giving equal time to both points of view. But yes--he got it on TV!
