Guest guest
Awesome Bill! Thanks for the inside scoop. I thought that of all the things I've read, that would be what he would be most excited about. Sooooo.... did I " read " you right.... are they actually going to annouce any time soon the connection to CFS and autism? Or did you mean that she is going to begin testing to see if the kids also have the same marker? (or has she already?)... Man, when (if) they (the researchers) announce the connection to CFS and autism, I'm printing that out and I'm prancing it around town and making everyone I've ever talked to about it read it lol. Thanks bunches for asking... ________________________________ From: Bill klimas <klimas_bill@...> Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2009 10:33:37 AM Subject: New Biomarker Caroline Yes the news is a new Bio marker for CFS (Autism?). Dr K and her partner Dr anne Flecher discovered a neuropeptide specific to CFS and hopefully Autism they call neuropeptideY. I asked her if this was purely Diagnostic in value and she responded that the test they developed can define the degree of severity of CFS excluding other deceases or conditions so it can be used to determine the actual effectiveness of various therapies. Additionally it has potential to be the bases of possible new therapies. Very exciting, she will confirm that it is a biomarker for Autism in coming months. Hopefully this will be a useful tool in ID ing the underlying mechanisms. You can watch for the research to be delivered by Dr anne Flecher at next months Nevada conference. Very Cool! Guest guest
As far as I know she has recognized the connection for some time. Her funding is in CFS at the university but I believe there may be some changes soon. This new biomarker may be key I am not sure but I hope to have her ear soon and will pin that down. Guest guest
Thanks Bill. It will be exciting - soooo hard to wait and see. I've figured that they haven't 'announced' the autism connection for wanting to have something very firm to show... but I can see why the specifics of the funding would be a problem too. I remember her talking to some of us on a conference in 2002-ish and it was powerful then, and it seems like a comment was made that due to the debacle of CFIDS that they saw, they were not going to allow that to happen with autism. Cannot exactly remember how it was said - just the gist that I remembered (w/my dysfunctional memory). Gee - if they ever want kids who have had both CFS and autism .... I've got one for sure (cfs @ 2 w/autism) and another just starting to present as aspie but it's really just the cognitive effects of CFIDS I think.
