Guest guest
Hi - I hope you won't mind my putting in an opinion, or rather just sharing some experience. Very often, the people coping with the extremes of mood, depression, absence of self-worth are at an extremely high risk of addiction, and it can be badly set off by starting w/marijuana. Also, if your son has anxiety, it will significantly increase on mj. Paranoia is also common - most people just overlook it, but in a teen, especially with low self-esteem, social paranoia can be intense. Our kids usually have allergies - you then deal with molds and bronchitis, which makes asperger's worse. Our large family has a high incidence of addiction. I would be very cautious before going that route. I used to believe strongly in the legalization, but being involved in the recovery side of family addiction and the universal feelings that you hear from addicts - it sounds just like our kids struggling w/asperger and isolation, and I'm starting to have to believe a lot differently. If there is any history of alcoholism in your family, and it doesn't have to be immediate - even grandparents can qualify him if any of you grew up under alcoholism, your son could qualify for Alateen groups, where many of these kids suffer the same feelings, and the acceptance in those groups can be very supportive to a child going thru what ours go thru, and could give a young teen a lot of hope, and a lot of tools for coping, and can even help develop some social networks where you otherwise wouldn't find one. If that kind of history isn't available as a qualifier, there are some church-based programs called Celebrate Recovery at various kinds of churches (more than one religion I mean) that are more christian based (12-steps are not religious even though they focus on a higher power) but not denominational, but they have small groups that address pretty much most issues, including mental illnesses and depression. I have not tried them myself, but I've talked to a few people, and this could be a great area to find really good mentors who will take time to try to help your child and your family. No one is more driven to serving and meeting needs, but not everyone will understand aspergers ... but you could give them tools that may help, and they may even be willing to expand and open a group for social dysfunction. That's something I've considered investigating. Guest guest
I am assuming you mean pills you swallow from Cannabis? Is this correct? If it is... I would hesitate. Marijuana is a psychologically addictive drug and can very well be physically addictive, too. The body depends on it over time and then when you stop you find yourself in a state of severe depression, anxiety worsens, and many other issues can transpire. I know this firsthand and would be willing to discuss my experience. I know there are people out there who are more susceptible to addiction. We are individuals with an addictive personality and somehow that does relate to our illness(es) of auto/neuro immune dysunction. Guest guest
My two cents: Dr. G is VERY against this and once showed me SPECT scans of the effects of long-term marijuana use on the brain. VERY scary. There were multiple dark (dead) areas. It might help with some symptoms in the short term, but in the long term, the damage to the brain is irreversable. Our kids already have brain dysfunction that we are trying to heal; I certainly wouldn't want to do anything to make it permanent.
