Guest guest
Dear group, My son had been on nizoral for about 20 days now. We increased the doze from 1/2tab to 3/4th after a week on it. He seemed to be ok, no screaming atleast until we inreased the doze. He's not been doing well ever since the increase. But today seems even worse with a lot of screaming, jumping & running around the house. His sleep was not so good either. He's not very verbal so it's hard to tell where exactly it hurts. We tried to give motrin and it didn't seem to help. When I sent in our progress(mainly negative) to Dr.G. last week, he said that die off takes anywhere between 7-21days. I'm assuming my son had been going thru it 'till now...I think! But we were hoping it would get better when we get close to the " 21days??? " My question to the group is could the last 2 days be worse than when we started? We keep thinking that may be he's not tolerating the doze increase? We're waiting to see what happens after tomorrow(21days) I wanted to hear what your thoughts & experiences are??? Appreciate your feedback. Guest guest
, If it stays bad another week I would definitely talk to Dr. G about that! How long has he been on his increased dose? He may feel really awful right now, and his way of dealing with it may be screaming. For my daughter, its chewing things and saying " no! " to everything. My daughters die-off was a bit more than 21 days. Especially because the increased dose makes it last longer. I know this period of time is very hard for you, but be patient...this won't last forever, because either way your boy will get better or you will take him off of the drug. Hope this helps!! --- bekeleelizabeth <bekeleelizabeth@...> wrote: > Dear group, > My son had been on nizoral for about 20 days now. > We increased the doze from 1/2tab to 3/4th after a > week on it. Guest guest
Sometimes it is not related to the die off at all, he could be coming down with something else...wait and see if he gets a cold or resp infection. Guest guest
We had a long die off as well. Lots of headaches, some aggression ( " kick mom " was a phrase we heard often, although he usually didn't kick; it just felt good to voice it). I agree, though, either he'll get better in the next few days or he'll be off the med. All the best, Robyn > > > Dear group, > > My son had been on nizoral for about 20 days now. > > We increased the doze from 1/2tab to 3/4th after a > > week on it. Guest guest
Dear & Robyn, Thank you so much for responding so quick. I've been anxious for a quick answer and didn't think I was going to get it this fast! You guys are amazing!! Robyn, I think Joab probably feels like kicking me also:) but can't express it. He usually runs away from me during those times!!! , it's interesting that you said your daughter chewed on things and being non-compliant. Joab is doing the same thing also in addition to the screaming....He chewed on half of a crayon today! This's something he never did before. He also bites on his wrist(not too hard) when the pain comes. And yes the non-compliant happens a lot too during those times. My husband was thinking also that it could take another 21 days from the time we increased it. It's been 14 days now since the increase. So, like you said this should stop after another week which by then we have our next consult anyway. I'll keep you posted. Thanks a lot again for the support!!!! > Dear group, > My son had been on nizoral for about 20 days now. > We increased the doze from 1/2tab to 3/4th after a > week on it. Guest guest
If you think he hurts, I would do one small test - 1/4 of a tsp of dye-free liquid benedryl (try not to wash it down w/too much water - you want it to come in contact w/the stomach and esophageus for just a minute), and wait 20-30 minutes and see if the behavior changes. I have stomach reactions to some meds, and nizoral is one of them, and it built up slowly. Benedryl resolved the pain for me. I think it's very rare for the kids to have that reaction, but it's a harmless painless test to rule out one possibility. (I know I'm starting to say it a lot, but several people have That's a little long for die-off but NOT unheard of. Nizoral is awesome for my oldest, and I felt great on it until the stomach thing (and I'll try it again soon I hope). But there are just a few kids that don't tolerate it for some reason or other - maybe not the first time around. I would recommend following Dr G's advice - he has seen it and knows when to stay the course or when to stop. Guest guest
Is there a difference in effectiveness between liquid Benadryl and the liquicaps? I have a significant allergy to garlic, and I believe I've linked it to " itching " episodes. About 30 minutes after ingestions, my whole body, except for my hands and my feet, begins to itch. It lasts for hours, making it hard to sleep. Sometimes there are little bumps all over or there's nothing--just the itch. I've tried Benadryl, but it doesn't seem to help much. Any suggestions would be appreciated? It's pretty hard to avoid garlic, especially in things like salad dressing. Thanks! Guest guest
No problem, . Noah also used to bite himself, mostly his hands. I think it came out of frustration and maybe provided a distraction from the pain in his head. I hope these settle down soon.
