Guest guest
I think probiotics are very important. BUT I can't take them. I react with bad sensory issues, restless leg, hypersensitive to touch, OCD, anxiety. Kyodophilus is the LEAST likely to set that off, and I take it when I can bring myself to, but I do have to back off the doses if I start feeling very out of sorts. 90% of the kids should do well on kyodophilus, though, without having that kind of reaction, and even if you do, it may still be important to tolerate it and do it anyway. Septra is a rough antibiotic, though, so the combo of that and not having your antifungal in place yet is probably half of it. I wouldn't want to stop probiotics if yeast is kicked up right now. It is also not uncommon for starting an antifungal to kick up yeast either - Mrs Goldberg posted some info on how that happens recently - about how that initial shift that begins in the immune system allows that to happen. If life is in a total meltdown, I tend to stop what I can to get a baseline, but most of this isn't negotiable. You don't stop the antivirals - ever - without instruction - you don't want to give opportunity to resistance, and the same goes w/the antifungal. You can stop probiotics for a few days (but you should get permission from Dr G), but you could regret it (I never did). You can stop the allergy med 3 days to see if it's a trigger or switch to another, but then you're setting up the possibility of allergy onsets and sinus and ear infections, so it's best to request a change .... you just can't do too many changes at once, and you don't want to play around without the doctor's permission. You can also do rotation diets to rule out food triggers -my kids are more sensitive to things they can usually handle after they've been sick, and we may have to pull a food out for a couple of weeks, but then they can get them back. I'm sorry you're going thru that. Few things make me shudder more than children who aren't sleeping. Sleep deprivation is a monster and makes all the rest difficult to cope with, so make sure you find someone somewhere who will help you get some extra hours of sleep in! Hi All, My son(9) has been on Famvir & antibiotic(septra) for about 5wks now. When we first started he was really miserable... agitated, sleep disturbance, lots of screaming(struggles with expressive language),covering ear almost all day, very unsocial etc. etc. He seemed very in pain all the time. About a week ago he started to have better sleep and less screaming, a little happy and we were so excited. Dr.G. had told me to expect that also. But that seemed to last a couple days and now we're back on the screaming, severe sound issues, less appetite, waking up at 1am or 2am and just stay wide awake until 5 or so and back to sleep for about 1 or 2hrs & wakes again with irritability. Not sure what's causing all this. He's also on claritin & takes kyodiphilus. .could those be problems or maybe the famvir is aggrevating something??? Our phone consult is next week, but just wanted to hear from you if you had the same experience w/famvir & antibiotic. I feel there's also a yeast flare up. I think Dr.G. will start us on antifungal on our next consult. Also, I wanted to ask are some of you on a g/f diet?? I'm suspecting that it may be a problem also, not that we see a clear reaction, but just wondering??! ! Guest guest
I just wanted to second what is saying here... you have to be so careful about making changes. , my heart goes out to you because your child is having a very hard time right now and it¹s so difficult to get through those times. I hope that you can get things smoothed out quickly. I think by the time your consultation rolls around next week, there¹s a good change Dr. G will make a change. Make sure you think of everything that might be a trigger and run those things by Dr. G. Keep everything as stable as you can as far as diet, etc. I think from what you¹ve written that you¹ve already got a pretty good running list of ideas. That¹s great... that¹s just the way you need to be thinking. In my opinion, you have been very patient in a difficult time waiting this out! At the beginning of our journey with Dr. Goldberg over 7 years ago, I was always so anxious to get to the next med... always so anxious to see what it might help with. Now that we¹ve been at this awhile, our updates tend to say at almost EVERY med change ³Need more time to observe.² It is so important to take the time to understand what is going on... for instance right now we are seeing some angriness and aggression in one of our kids after a med increase, but he has also come down with a cold... so we¹re riding this wave to try and figure it out. We know that until he is over his cold and completely recovered from it, we won¹t be able to rule that out as a cause. Maybe we¹ll never figure everything out, but we have to do everything we can to be sure we don¹t make a wrong move on a med. I believe that we are doing the best we have ever done on the med changes due to a more conservative attitude as time wears on. It is really hard to struggle through some of these issues, but the more patient you can be, the more likely you are to be able to make good decisions about the meds. Be careful just to make ONE change at a time and watch it hard. That even means changes in diet, etc. That said, you can also request to try changing a med (i.e. Maybe going to Zovirax from Famvir if you suspect that Famvir is not completely controlling the viral issue but maybe just ³kicking it up², which is what Dr. G suspected went on with one of our boys... he switched him to Zovirax and has expressed that he is not interested to go back to Famvir with this particular child.). Guest guest
I really appreciate everyone's respond!! It helps with our confusion here! I'been noticing Joab not doing well if I do kyodophilus daily, so what I've been doing was like you said , back off for a day or two when he's having a terrible day & that seemed to help. I know he needs it now though! We used to give him custom probiotics during our DAN days, and that didn't agree with him either. So I'll try and keep it at every other day or so until I talk with Dr.G. He had mentioned Nizoral before and I think we'll start next wk after our consult. I've not stopped the famvir or the antibiotic at all. I've asked if I could stop the antibiotic but Dr.G. said no. We're trying 2-3 days off from claritin to see if that's part of the problem. It sounds most of everyone's kid doesn't seem to do well with it, so it may be the case here too. We'll try zertec if this's the case, that was what Dr. G. suggested. Joab had been off cows milk and soy ever since he was 3. He was having goat products for a while and Dr.G. strictly said to stop due to his high casein allergy on the test. That doesn't seem to make a difference yet but we'll see. Thank you all very much again for the support!! We pray that he'll be out of his pain soon! God Bless!!! Guest guest
, where will I find the info. that Mrs. Goldberg had posted regarding yeast/antifungal? Is it in the archives?? thank you so much for your help. Caroline, thank you so much for your respond! You're right I think to do one change at a time, I've learned that from our time with the DAN's. Guest guest
Hey - I couldn't tell you right now - I'll look thru my files. It isn't named that way, and was kind of obscure, just talking about the immune shifts. It doesn't come right out and say how it does it ... it just documented some of the immune involvment.... so I don't know that it's particularly good reading.
