There is not an official test.  You can have ASO titers drawn (checks the enzyme

that responds to strep) to see if they are very elevated.  Then, depending on

the reading, you have to determine if there has been a recent infection (which

is the primary reason ASO titers can't specifically define PANDAS - they

fluctuate in typical people too), whether there is a current infection (throat

swab), etc.

If you get the lab done, you can post the results here.

This test is a fairly good guideline to see if strep might be causing some

problems. I've had extremely high ASO titers for more than two years. I started

at 2,000 (I believe 200 is the high end of normal) and Dr. G's gotten me down to

1400 with Ery-Ped (I'm on my fourth month of treatment). I had a LOT of anxiety

and obsessive thoughts, which have dissipated considerably since starting the

Ery-Ped. I've had this for a long time--I believe since I was young. I just

thought I was a little on the wacky side. Now that I don't have as much anxiety

and the obsessive stuff has eased up, I realize how much it consumed my life and

how it affected me.

My advice is if you suspect PANDAS, do the ASO titers test.

All the best,

Will a round of amoxicillin affect the outcome of the ASO titers test?

Probably not - if it were to rapidly bring down the ASO titers into normal range

(I don't think it can happen that fast even in typical people), then it wouldn't

likely be PANDAS. HTH

Our experience reflected Cynthis¹a comment... even though we saw some

immediate results from starting ERY PED, it took many months (maybe 9?) to

get the titers down.

,

An ³ASO titer² is a blood test to measure anti-streptolysin O (ASO)

antibodies which have been made by the body to fight strep.
