Guest guest
I had a root canal in my front tooth, it failed, still had pain (tooth fractured), so I had the tooth pulled and they put a bone graft in and I wore a flipper (kinda like a retainer w/a false tooth on it). They waited a few months for the bone graft to harden and then put the implant in, I still wore the flipper afterwards, waited for 6 mos+, and then put the final tooth on, it feels nice to smile again and not be embarrassed. It takes a little while longer to have an implant put in if you need a bone graft, if you don't, it's much quicker, they can put the implant in immediately after the extraction if there's enough bone. I opted for the implant because it's my front tooth. I am missing some more teeth and am going to have a partial made. I had called around to different oral surg's/dentists asking if any of them did sliding scale or accept lower payments if I paid cash, the front desk people would say no, but I've found that once you get your foot thru the door, explain your situation to the dentist, they are happy to negotiate payment plans, accept a lower amount if you pay cash, you can set up a payment plan and pay cash, I even had one dentist offer to make a night guard for me and I was worried it wouldn't help my tmj, so we worked out a plan, that if it didn't work, I didn't have to pay, it didn't work, and I didn't pay. I look at it like this; it can't hurt to ask, all they can do is say no. To date, I have not had anyone say no. If I pay w/my amex card or Visa, they're going to incur a fee from the credit card co., so they don't mind discounting. Also, my dentist said another option when you're missing just one tooth is a fake tooth that has metal clips on it and it snaps right in where your tooth is missing, you don't have to have a whole partial made, he said it's less invasive and cheaper. Just a thought. From: " grball628 " To: Lyme_and_Rife Date: 04/10/2012 07:58 AM Subject: Re: OT: Have you had root canals removed? Sent by: Lyme_and_Rife It's complicated for me because I have to wear a TMJ biteguard at all times except if I'm eating. So my tmj doc will put a fake tooth into the bite guard, but when I take it off to eat, I'll be missing a front bottom tooth. Not ideal. But I would definitely choose a partial. That's removable, and won't traumatize other teeth like a bridge would, and won't brink more risk like an implant would. It's not as convenient but it's safer. > > I am facing the same decision.
