Guest guest
When baking soda comes in contact with hydrochloric acid, it bubbles up into a foam. You can use it as a tool to test for low stomach acid. In the morning before eating or drinking, take an 8 ounce glass of water and mix in a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and drink it down. If you have a healthy amount of acid, or excessive amounts, the baking soda should have a chemical reaction that will cause you to belch when it bubbles up in the stomach. If you have not burped within a few minutes of the test, then you may very well have an insufficient level of acid in the stomach.
