Guest guest
I would not go back to the place Dr. G’s office recommended, Santa Imaging (I believe). It was a very strange experience, and they assured me that my insurance would pay. I had to pay the anesthesiologist cash on the spot (after the scan, with no prior knowledge I would have to do this). My insurance paid a fraction of the total, and nothing for the anesthesiologist. I know of at least one other facility, and they have clinics all over the US, The Amen Clinic. http://www.amenclinics.com/ Kristy From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of FREDA CURL Sent: Sunday, May 17, 2009 7:21 AM Subject: Re: SPECT scans question I was blessed to have my son's done in California when I flew out to see Dr. Goldberg. Guest guest
Interesting that you said that. I've submitted the claim for the Anesthesiologist portion and waiting for a respond from United.  It didn't sound right when we're there also. I even asked the doc why he doesn't participate with insurance and his response was " they don't pay him! " it was odd!!! so we may end up with nothing back too!! will try & fight it...... Guest guest
I had exactly the same experience.  I was assured by the front office gal at Santa imaging that insurance would reimburse our expenses.  Insurance wrote denying the claim. Same for anestheisologist.  Cherie From: Neno/Natasa <neno@dalmaholidays . co.uk <mailto:neno% 40dalmaholidays. co.uk> > Subject: SPECT scans question " groups (DOT) com <mailto:% 40groups. com> " <groups (DOT) com <mailto:% 40groups. com> > Date: Sunday, May 17, 2009, 5:40 AM Having watched DrG¹s presentation (thanks for posting!), now wondering if the SPECTs scans he talks about are only available in a certain place? Guest guest
I had a hard time as well but got nearly the full amount for the spec. However I am still waiting for the anesth. check. Everyone says the south is back woods, but California BCBS has issues. Mississippi BCBS is on top of things.        From: Neno/Natasa <neno@dalmaholidays . co.uk <mailto:neno% 40dalmaholidays. co.uk> > Subject: SPECT scans question " groups (DOT) com <mailto:% 40groups. com> " <groups (DOT) com <mailto:% 40groups. com> > Date: Sunday, May 17, 2009, 5:40 AM Having watched DrG¹s presentation (thanks for posting!), now wondering if the SPECTs scans he talks about are only available in a certain place? Guest guest
Any tips on dealing with backwoods Tennessee. Guest guest
Don't hold your breath, Freda, on the claim for the anesthesiologist. We're BCBS Federal and the doctor SMIT uses isn't an preferred provider. Not sure if you have the BCBS Standard or Basic. If it's basic, they won't pay. Guest guest
Yes, you can get them at most major hospitals. I was speaking to SMITA about going to UCLA, where the scan, anesthesiologist, labs, etc would all be covered by my insurance and then having the raw data sent to Dr. Uszler so I would only have to have a consult with him. $450 vs. around $6k. They like to say things like - it'll only cost about $3k. *But* that's *only* for the scan there. It doesn't include the consult, the anesthesiologist, labs, etc. They like to blow smoke up your arse. They are money hungry - when I was talking to them about this they were really trying to convince me that insurance would pay, etc. If I did it there. I called my insurance to find out how much they would pay and it was very little as they aren't a preferred provider. Do your own research with this one. I don't know anything about the Amen clinics so I can't help there but I can tell you, you really need to figure out how to make it not come out of pocket on your own, you won't get any help from anyone selling the scan. I don't have $6k laying around and I wasn't about to try to figure out how to pay that up front and then fight to get minimal reimbursement. Guest guest
My husbands insurance is BCBS Federal (Mississippi). I had to deal with BCBS of California (because that was the state my son was served in) and they are so very confused. I sent the neuro spec claim with the anesth. claim and California lost the neuro spec claim and it has gone down hill since then.  They have the amount of minutes (135) of the testing confused with the amount $750.00.  I have been told that if Santa Imaging is part of your insurance ppo then they can not require you to file the claim. I found this out after the fact. BCBS was not happy that I had to file.        -- On Mon, 5/18/09, Martha Wood <marthawood@...> wrote: From: Martha Wood <marthawood@...> Subject: RE: SPECT scans question Date: Monday, May 18, 2009, 4:36 PM Any tips on dealing with backwoods Tennessee. Guest guest
We went round and round with both SMIT and BCBS. The anesthesia charges were never paid by BCBS because Dr. Mandel was not an network provider. BCBS paid a portion of the scan and we went after SMIT for the remainder of the money since they were supposed to bill insurance at a predetermined amount based on their contract. In the end, we only paid about $150 of the total cost of the scan. I hope things go well for you. Guest guest
Cheryl, When you talk about consult, are you talking about consulting with another Dr that did the scan or Dr.Goldberg? Guest guest
You will probably get back a portion of what you spent on the anesthesiologist. We have Basic and you don't get reimbursed at all if they're out of network. all the best, Robyn > > > > From: Neno/Natasa <neno@dalmaholidays . co.uk > > <mailto:neno% 40dalmaholidays. co.uk> > > > Subject: SPECT scans question > > " groups (DOT) com <mailto:% > > 40groups. com> " > > <groups (DOT) com <mailto:% > 40groups. > > com> > > > Date: Sunday, May 17, 2009, 5:40 AM > > > > Having watched DrG¹s presentation (thanks for > posting!), > > now wondering if > > the SPECTs scans he talks about are only available in > a > > certain place?
