Guest guest
Are you sure it's related to ant bites? My son was on one of the SSRIs (can't remember which one) and he developed a rare photoallergic reaction when the warmer weather came and he started to spend more time in the sun. He had these huge hives all over him and they were itchy. I noticed they were only on parts of his body exposed to the sun. A dermatologist confirmed that it was a reaction involving the SSRI and sun exposure so we had to switch. Thought I'd pass that along just in case. Rhoda Bug bite/sting allergies Are allergic reactions to bites/stings common in families? My 3.5 yr old " typical " son reacted to fire ant bites (3) on his feet with hives over ALL his body this afternoon- SCARY! He's gotten a few bites in his lifetime without this reaction. I spoke to our local nurse and she said the doctor might want to give us an epipack for future issues. We go in on Wednesday for a well-baby check-up for our daughter so we'll talk to her then. I personally welt up from mosquito bites, but it's localized. Just curoius to know if this is common in family with immune issues. - in Mobile, AL (the port of entry of fire ants into the USA!- no joke!) ______________________________________ " You must write for children in the same way as you do for adults, only better. Guest guest
, this is very enlightening. My 12 year old daughter reacted on her foot and last week on her arm although we don't know to what. I personally don't react unusually to stings/bites. From: carriecox@... Guest guest
Rhoda, I'm 99% sure it was the ant bites. The hives started within minutes. He's not on any medication and was in the shade when it happened. I've heard of antibiotics causing sun sensitivities but not SSRIs. Interesting! Thanks! - Bug bite/sting allergies Are allergic reactions to bites/stings common in families?
