Guest guest
For the past 2 weeks, has been hysterically crying on the horse and the therapist and I cannot figure out why. His progress up till this point was wonderful and getting better every week. Now, he refuses to participate. He just cries. rarely cries, so it is really troubling. We tried to make it more pleasurable for him instead of work this week, but still, the tears. Anybody have a clue??? Guest guest
Hi Steffi, Sorry to hear is having a difficult time at riding. (Does he ride Calvin or Lucky?) Might be a horse-thing.....sometimes either of those two can get cranky although they generally are great with the kids. A few other ideas.....we stopped Tim after 5 years when we had these experiences. Our instructor did not know enough sign and even when she did it was often VERY difficult for Tim to see her up on the horse when she gave signed instruction and he would stop or start with out warning. Also, the hippotherapy can involve manipulation of the child while on the horse and if, as in Tim's case, he perhaps couldn't see the signer or they just didn't sign and all of a sudden he was being physically turned around to ride backwards or on his belly without notice he would flip out. Imagine yourself in that situation. Maybe your peripheral vision wasn't so good or the instructor wasn't in your field of vision; maybe you were profoundly deaf; you're riding on a huge animal and all of a sudden someone starting getting in "your space" without warning.........moving you around, touching you or.......asking the horse to trot without warning. Scary!!! Just some ideas from experience. Donna ps does ride on Saturdays? Maybe Nikki will see you there sometime. She rides at another stable these days but still goes back for 4-H and wants to volunteer at Riding High.
Guest guest
Hi Steffi, is it a different horse? volunteer? time? is he feeling ok? going through seperation anxiety? just tired? hungry? Our insurance was covering 80% to a point, now nothing, well, the ned of the year nothing haven't heard about january or Feb. yet, local elks donated $100, nice, but that doesn't cut it when it's 75 dollars a week! hope it gets better--I can't believe he's two already. Guest guest
Hello to all...I was just reading this, but am curious about something. I am from Nebraska, but I don't think it's just a " Nebraska thing, " but our school districs here provide therapists at their cost..which means it's totally free to the parents (well, we pay taxes I guess:). Wyatt has had many therapists throughout the past few years, and they were paid by the ESU (Educational Service Unit). Like I say, it may be just a Nebraska thing, but I don't think it is...might be worth checking into as far as that goes? And about having tough days with therapy, Wyatt has days also that he just gets plain sick of having to work, and will do anything imaginable to get out of it. Sometimes I find that his speech therapist gets frustrated with him and he knows that, therefore doesn't like to do what she wants. She and I had a talk about that and it seems to be going better...just a thought. --- maria halloran wrote: > Hi Steffi, is it a different horse? volunteer? time? > is he feeling ok? > going through seperation anxiety? just tired? > hungry? Guest guest
, By Federal law schools after the age of three are to pay for all therapies (before age three services are paid for by EI services) that are 'educational' in nature.. for instance.. if a kiddo can't hold a pencil due to hypotonia the school pays for OT, if a kiddo is blind they pay for O & M and vision therapy.. the problem with getting them to pay for stuff like hippotherapy is they will argue that it's of no educational value.. does not inhance the education of the student. Some schools however will pay for it in place of some types of PT...
