Guest guest
Hi Super nu thera is a good supplement for many kids but be aware when you start it that if your child is sensitive it can be too much, with parents reporting issues like hyper-activity. Start it in isolation (ie not with any other supplement and not at a strange time like going on holiday) and watch for any reactions. The best multi vitamin in the UK is Bio-care (IMO) as it si the purest- sorry not sure about other countries. regards Deborah > > Hi listmates, > > Just wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good multi- vitamin > > that complimants the proefa and proepa. > > Thanks, Pam
Guest guest
I know alot of people advocate the use of Sea Silver, but it also is a *potential* hazard - silver is one of those elements that builds up in the system and create a toxic situation. I believe that some of our kids are much more sensitive to metals, pollutants and other poisons, so please read up lots first - and consider speaking with a nutritionist or doctor. Good luck! Guest guest
My son uses the Spectra-complete from Kirkman. It is a powder and it relatively tasteless--it's easy to get into food or liquid. I noticed that someone had recommended Seasilver. I looked into that for my son a couple of weeks ago, and was disappointed that they do not give amounts of each ingredient. I emailed the manufacturer and they replied that because every bottle is different, that they do not get " caught up " in specific amounts (mg, IUs, etc,) for each ingredient. I had a hard time with this, since most vitamins are allowed a certain % of difference away from what is labeled. I personally would not want to give my child something that I wasn't sure how much of what I was giving him. If anyone knows any differently then I would be interested in that info., b/c I was intially up to trying it. Renn [ ] Re: multi-vitamin Super Nu-Thera from Kirkman labs. Guest guest
I used to give Emergen-C and liked it. I recently changed my son to BrainChild multis and take the Emergen-C myself. There has been a noticable cognitive gain since we have startedBrainChild Multi-Vitamins and Minerals. Haleh --- Ken Maher <kwmaher29@...> wrote: > What mult-vitamins are you giving your kids? Guest guest
At our first DAN appt he gave us the Pioneer brand. It seems to be great for our with the Kirkman's B6/magnesium and tha nasal b12. I have no other multi to compare it to, but when it runs out, I may try Kirkman's multi. Guest guest
As I have mentioned before I think, we use " Sea Buddies Daily Multiple " by Enzymatic Therapy. It has a usable form of vitamin A, is chewable, " splashberry " flavored, whatever that is. We can't use capsules. Peace, Kathy E. > > What mult-vitamins are you giving your kids? Guest guest
Donna, For an ASD child who needs much heavier duty supplemantation, I recommend Brainchild spectrum II (liquid). For an NT child, Emergen-C which are the powder that fizz in the water and they come in a variety of tasty flavors. I give my son both brain child as well as a package of Emergen C per day divided into three with each juice at meal time I do that because in addition to other vitamins, it has 1000 mg of C and 60 mg magnesium which are nice addition to the Brainchild multis. Also My husband and I use it as well and add a lot individual things that we like to take high doses of. I buy it at Trader Joe's for under $8 dollors per box of 36 package and have seen it in just about every health food store for about $ 10. Sorry, no chewable here. I have never come across good multi vitamin that is chewable and doesn't have some other problem ingredients. Guest guest
This is a liquid not a chewable, but we really like Liquid Health. It has a nice flavor; does not contain common allergens. It does have copper, so be aware if your child is sensitive. http://www.smartbomb.com/765462008369.html They also have a product called Attention--aimed at ADD/ADHD with many good ingredients, including GABA. It does not taste as good, but mixing in orange juice or giving something to wash it down after has helped. http://www.smartbomb.com/765462001360.html happydogmoon <happydogmoon@...> wrote: > > Can someone recommend a chewable mulitvitamin? Guest guest
Here: http://www.brainchildnutritionals.com/Brainchild_Nux.html Please start with a trial size first as it is expensive and make sure you start low and slow. It is a fabulous product which brought noticeable cognitive gains. Its taste has to be hidden in juice for young ones. A sweet and sour juice is idea. We use blueberry pomegranate or pure cherry. If your child is not too sensitive, you can go to Spectrum Support II other wise do a trial size of the their Sensitive Formula. During the common adjustment period you may see increased hyperactivity and your child may become too emotional. In time it passes and for us this adjustment was well worth it as the benefits out weigh that. I made the mistake of starting at full dose and had to stop and restart low and slow. It really has made a big difference for my son and since on it, he doesn't get ill as often as he used to. It is an array of botanicals. GFCF and SCD (I believe) and organically grown. I'm also trying to figure out which multivitamin to give my 25-month old, and have a dumb question, sorry: How do you know if your child doesn't tolerate the copper in some of them? What will happen? Guest guest
Rhonda, Most ASD children have severe deficiency in zinc. Supplementation of copper further depletes zinc since the two need to maintain a balanced ratio. Too much copper is also toxic. What will happen? High copper generally causes hyper and/or lack of focus. The body needs the correct zinc/copper ratio. Most kids are high copper and low zinc. One of my kids was low copper, and I have to supplement him with lots of copper and relatively little zinc. What is the ratio from this multi? It should have no more than 2mg copper, and if it does, you might need to increase a separate zinc supplement. Does your child test as high copper? Guest guest
I'm so new to all of this that I have no idea what metals, etc., my son tests as being high or low in -- is this a result I can get from the blood tests his doctor's office does, or do I have to arrange a different type of test at a different place (and if so, where?!). Guest guest
Rhona: The hair test Dana mentions is a great idea. You also might consider picking up Dr. Jacquelyn McCandless's book " Children With Starving Brains " and maybe Marohn's " The Natural Medicine Guide to Autism " . I'm pretty sure you said you don't have an autism diagnosis and neither do we, but the topics discussed are in my view completely relevant for the kids w/PDD or sensory or even plain old ADHD. In many cases it is just a matter of severity. You might also check out the DAN webcast where there is a full conference available for free: http://www.DANWebcast.com <http://www.danwebcast.com/> Or www.generationrescue.org <http://www.geberationrescue.org/> (tons of stuff there - some of it wouldn't be relevant for you guys but some probably would) When it comes to blood tests or stool tests or urine tests or anything along those lines, it will probably take you awhile to figure out what might be helpful to you. Some conventional docs are cooperative. Some definitely aren't. Best idea is to educate yourself, bring a good rationale and ask for the testing. If s/he resists, you can always order much of it yourself from www.directlabs.com <http://www.directlabs.com/> and/or find a doctor who will work with you. Check the list of doctors here: http://www.autismwebsite.com/ari/dan/dan.htm Again, most of these work explicitly with autism but they also work with others. My daughter sees a DAN doc b/c she had a rotten digestive system, a speech delay some gross motor and some sensory delay and I wanted to treat the " root " instead of the symptoms. I hope this helps, Josie Re: Re: Multi-vitamin I'm so new to all of this that I have no idea what metals, etc., my son tests as being high or low in -- is this a result I can get from the blood tests his doctor's office does, or do I have to arrange a different type of test at a different place (and if so, where?!).
