Guest guest
Hi Noel-my son took prozac when he was about 8 years old for the first time and he couldn't sleep all night! This went on for months and then we switched to paxil for a long time. Then we tried celexa for about a year. Now my son is in his 20's and we tried prozac again, and believe it or not, he is doing really great with it now! Sometimes certain ssri's work better on a person as they get older, as it did in my son's case. Sometimes an ssri just isn't right for your child. The only way to find out is to try different meds until one works. Sometimes this can change as they get older. Hope this helps. PRozac Hi, ? Guest guest
Noel, We did Prozac when my son was 5 or 6. It worked well for us. Actually I didn't want to switch to Celexa when Dr. G recommended we do so and we had a heated discussion about it. I think the SSRI is so individual and getting the dosing right is definitely an art. I used to hate it when Dr. G changed anything because I thought my kid was doing great and didn't want to mess it up, but I usually would try it and if it wasn't a good change we went back to what was working. Guest guest
Thank you Marcia for responding. I appreciate your input. Yesterday went much better for us, he had a great day, so I'm hoping maybe he is adjusting. We usually know right away if it is good or not. The first day was a nightmare, yawning, falling asleep, very irritabable. We switched from Celexa, but things started to go downhill prior to the switch. You are so right though, when things are good you don't want to switch. Can I ask you, Was your son in early grades without an aide? Guest guest
I can probably muddy the water a little more My twins were on Prozac for years and it worked fine but one twin this summer we switched to Cymbalta. It seems that going through puberty and having a teenager growing we needed a change. We were finding out that one of my sons was too tired outside of the normal teenager stuff. Towards the end of school, the teachers were noticing that he was yawning and putting his head down. He was always tired and with tiredness comes irritableness It is really hard to separate things out between antifungals, antivirals, SSRIs and all the viruses, mono and everything that tends to go around school. I am not quite sure what Marcia sees in her older son but I have noticed moving into the teenager/adult years, my gauge of switching medicine is based more on the chronic fatigue/energy/sleep quality level spectrum and less on the earlier criteria of the " foggy " spectrum I agree with everyone. I HATE switching meds when things seem to be going smoothly. You are always waiting for the next shoe to drop when you change things Ann Re: PRozac gvizjazz@..., Date: Monday, July 27, 2009, 7:06 AM Noel, We did Prozac when my son was 5 or 6. Guest guest
Hi Anne-How old are your twins? Are they mainstreamed in regular ed classes? Do they have an aide? How are their academics? My son has aged out of school, but never got to that level of functioning. He remained in a self contained class in a regular high school, and participated in the graduation ceremony. Thanks for your input! Re: Re: PRozac I can probably muddy the water a little more My twins were on Prozac for years and it worked fine but one twin this summer we switched to Cymbalta. Guest guest
Mine is in Prozac 7.5mg morning, no side efects, but i guess you must advice the doctor. Every kid is different. > > Would like to know if anyone had any problems with their child`s appetite while on prozac? Changed SSRI`s from celexa to prozac 7.5 mg in A.M. > This little boy is hypoglycemic a very picky eater 2 days on prozac not eating anything but dry cerial. He is sleeping now & happy. Has anyone have this happen if so will this be an adjustment to this med? I see this could be a side affect on prozac. Curious woul love to know any experiences while on this medicine. > Thanks > Carole >
Guest guest
One thing I've noticed is that tastes can change in the first few days of an SSRI but it will usually go away in a couple of weeks... Ours has been on all the SSRI`s so this one is the only one he hasn`t tried we are praying this one will be it from what I read on older post also the exact right dosage is also the key. Guest guest
He's 12 and has been on the protocol for 8 years. He's been on each of the SSRI's at one time or another. It seems that often what doesn't work out for a kid at one age could very well be a perfect fit later. We tried Prozac twice before and had terrible luck with it. This time it's been a great fit. Good luck. Hopefully this one will be the one that will make the difference you're looking for. Donna > > > Thanks all who replied. Donna how old is your son?
