Guest guest
Hi, I would like to know your children's experience with tenex. I have a three year old who has a history of seizures but just had a normal EEG!!!! She is now going off valproic acid and Dr. G wants her to go on tenex. She takes celexa, valtrex, and nizoral. The celexia makes her moody but I thought the Tenex might help with that. Thanks
Guest guest
Tenex is for impulse control, and it works really well for my son. Guest guest
Tenex didn't do much of anything for my son except make him sleepy. Guest guest
We've had good luck with low doses of Tenex. My son takes it in the morning and evening. It really helped with his hyperness. Guest guest
, We have had good luck with Tenex at a very low dose. If we go higher, it seems to make our son angrier (he struggles with being oppositional anyway). He had seizures in the past but has been seizure free for several years. His EEG is unfortunately still not normal enough to go off of the anticonvulsant (it still shows ³spikes²). Oddly, way back when his seizures were still very bad (many seizures daily) he had a normal EEG one day, but has never had one since. His neurologist does seem to think now that he has a good chance of outgrowing the seizures, though, as does Dr. Goldberg. I wish you the best of luck. Caroline G. Guest guest
My son was on Tenex (guanfacine) for about 4 years. It really helped with attention--was the only med that ever did. It's an off-label use of a med developed for high blood pressure, so you have to be careful with ramping them up on it. My son is now 17 and his psychiatrist was concerned about him being on it as an adult. We weaned him off of it, but sadly, there has never been any good substitute for the Tenex and he continues to have difficulty with inattention in school. Tenex is now marketed as Intuniv--which is the once daily, long-acting version of Tenex. In a message dated 1/14/2011 8:45:16 P.M. Appreciate it your comments. Thanks Jeanne [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
