Guest guest
I wanted to know if Dr. Goldberg recommends ABA as an intervention. I have read he is very particular with his treatment strategy so just wanted to know what does the protocol recommend. My son has been doing ABA ~ 12 hours per week. He does seem to learn while on it, but I feel it is more cognitive learning and not interpersonal communication. He also has a tendency to keep repeating his ABA lessons on his own and seems to get lost in it when not in a session. We are wondering what would be the long term effect. Guest guest
Dr. G has told me no to ABA. He wants to make sure that our kids have all the basic developmental building blocks in place. I have learned from Brain Highways (www.brainhighways.com) and my son's amazing OT and ST that these form a pyramid and start on the bottom level with basic infant reflexes and end at the top with executive functioning. If any of the building blocks are not in place, it's very difficult, if not impossible, for executive functioning to develop. I've posted a copy of the pyramid here: http://www.sandiegoclosetcompany.com/formsample/pyramid.pdf Most of the ABA provided to our kids is not done properly and does not address these core developmental deficits. My son STILL - 2 years later - automatically responds that he's 5 when asked how old he is, and I have to give him a look so he remembers to really answer the question from deep in his mind and not the " ABA taught " response.
