Guest guest
Yes, my son has gone through phases of 'accidents', usually associated with either a medication adjustment or food change. The most recent time was when I was giving him the pre-sliced apples from Costco. I guess whatever 'preservative' they used on them did not agree with my son. Yeast flare-ups and die-offs can do it, too. Kristy From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Robyn Sent: Wednesday, May 20, 2009 12:20 PM Subject: Urination Issues Has anyone had any issues with increased urination and poor control on the protocol? My eight year old son has been potty trained, including nighttime, since he was about 3 1/2. Now he's having problems with control. They're not full fledge accidents; it's more like " leaking " or bladder spasms. It seems to come on very quickly. He's had several accidents at school and he often wakes up damp. This happens despite controlling fluid intake and potty breaks every 45 minutes or so. I spoke with the school's behavior consultant and she doesn't believe that this is a behavior issue and neither do I. I've schedule him an appointment with a peds urologist at Children's Hospital, but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or encountered anything similar to this? TIA, Robyn
Guest guest
Robyn, If your child is on an SSRI it might be a contributing factor. We have had problems such as yours when we increase the SSRI, but then the child has adjusted and the problem goes away until we increase again. see this study... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12138594 I¹ll bet the incidence is higher than that. Guest guest
This is the first time we've had this issue with the SSRI. Interesting study and I will mention it to the urologist. Dr. G has already ruled out UTIs, but he wanted us to consult a urologist as well. Noah has hypospadias surgery when he was 11 months old, and there is a possibility something's gone wrong with the repair. Thanks for the input. Guest guest
My son had this until he was about 16. He wore pullups at night, and we didn't make an issue out of it. At 16, it went away. Guest guest
Do you think it was caused by an SSRI? What do you think caused it to stop? Guest guest
You might also check on his blood sugar to rule out diabetes/blood sugar issues. But I'd think it's more likely SSRI related if there has been a change recently. Guest guest
Yes. He has gotten it every night at bedtime for the last couple of years. I think we took a break for a bit, but we ended up going back to it. We live in a So Cal beach community with lots of humidity and lots of flora, fauna and road traffic. Prior to that we lived on a golf course (lots of toxins there), and before that our house was surrounded by forest in Tahoe (we’ve lived in some really great places). And we have a yellow-lab/shepard who sheds all year round. I think it helps him deal with all those environmental allergens that we really don’t have much control over. Guest guest
Hi Robyn, There can be several causes. My experience is when ASO titers are elevated, or have mycoplasma, I will not feel the need to urinate. I will have to set a timer to go, and go more frequently, or a simple cough or laugh... well. And you're only talking a little volume. So if your child isn't even feeling the need to go, just having a little accident, and going a lot more frequently, it could simply be something bacterial going on, or high ASO. I think Dr G would have ruled aso out by now - I think he's probably aware. Anyway, urinary hormones are connected somehow to the immune system, so other things can also cause them to get mildly out of whack - allergies, etc. Sometimes good changes can also bring a period of accidents too. Most of the time, it's meds - ssri's or allergies. It's those simple things you look into first, but if you see improvement on antibiotics, there's a chance that could be going on. HTH- ________________________________ From: Robyn <rngcoggs@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 20, 2009 2:19:41 PM Subject: Urination Issues Has anyone had any issues with increased urination and poor control on the protocol? TIA, Robyn

Guest guest
Mark your calendar for about a month from now to ask if he is meaner than usual. It's a slow build up and you forget all about the allegra, and you should, but if in a month you are pulling your hair out from his bad attitude or oppositional behavior, you'll be glad you marked your calendar. Not to doom it - hope you don't have the same reaction. Give it a chance and all. Guest guest
Kristy, and myself can't take antihistamines. They make us very weird and tired. Instead to control the allergies we do Beconase a nasal spray. Naselnex or Flonase is another form of this that might work for you. Dr G still wants to take something like Zrytec or Clariton. But this is one of those times I have to trust my gut and Dr. Mom knows best. He still is the best doctor though. Marcia
Guest guest
Hey, add the weight gain symptom in, and you might be getting close. Weight/growth and glucose can also be in that little group of hormones, so changes in one can affect another. Typically it isn't really associated with anything negative, and I don't know that any long term problems come from it ... just one of those aggrevating things that will go away when things settle and get 'normalized'. I could try to find some of the abstracts I saved trying to figure all of that out a couple of years ago ... someone had sent me a lot of good info on the hormone regulation. Maybe I have it saved and it will be easy enough to find. ________________________________ From: Robyn & Greg Coggins <rngcoggs@...> Sent: Friday, May 22, 2009 12:00:03 AM Subject: Re: Urination Issues Thanks, . Guest guest
Yes. Several of the meds have urinary problems as side effects. Sometimes urinary retention can appear to be accidents or sudden need to go because the person isn't able to easily empty fully, doesn't feel the need to go and then loses control or starts to lose control when the bladder is overly filled.
