Guest guest
I know this is confusing. Maybe what I am asking is how many children get better enough so they can be successful in school and in life like other typical children. I want to know how many of the children that have been on the protocol can live independent lives and are happy when they grow up. For me the meaning of recovered is being able to be independent in life, happy, successful in school, be able to find a job (not be an expense to this country) and be a confident person. I don't think there's a definitive answer to this question, , since recovery is an ongoing process and often takes place over many years. Marcia Hinds' son is 20, and she says that the " final pieces " have only fallen into place in the last couple of years. He started with Dr. G when he was 7 years old. Parents of recovered patients tend to drop off these message boards as their lives " normalize, " so they are generally not here to answer our questions about recovery. I know that as my son improves and moves up (and hopefully, off!) the spectrum, I find myself with less to worry about, and posting here less and less often. I was not in attendance at the conference yesterday, but I understand that Dr. G brought in several of his " recovered " patients. I wish I could have been there to talk directly with them! Guest guest
Hi, Donna. Greg and I and the three boys were there yesterday as " works in progress " and evidence of the familial connection with this disease process. Greg and I both have high HHV6 and EBV. In addition, I have a couple of autoimmune diseases. I was wonderful to talk to and Marcia and the other recovered young adults. To hear Marcia describle as a child and to speak with him now as an adult was nothing short of miraculous. These young people were poised, articulate and very forthright about where they were then and where they are now. It was awesome and gave us so much hope. We know we're on the right path. Guest guest
Leaving feelings aside in the end it is the science only which will provide the basis for peer acceptance and action leading to individualised and appropriate intervention for our children. Parents continue to move ahead of a medical world generally too slow (with the exception of the few) to respond to the explosion in neurodevelopment difficulties currently afflicting children. But if the kids answered the questions what could they say? There are recovered children all over the country leading normal productive lives. I do believe the USAAA is selling the DVD. This is real recovery education, social, driving real life! Elyse Goldberg > > I too would love to know the answer to this. I have only heard of three > recovered kids. Guest guest
Hi Elyse-how can we get the dvd from the conference? I would love to see it as I couldn't be there. I am happy for those who have recovered and it certainly shows that there is hope for?recovery for our nids children. My son has been following the nids protocol for a number of years. He also has been in excellent school programs with speech, OT, socialization therapy, etc. He has made great strides over the years, going from nonverbal and nonfunctional to conversing and eye contact. He is a very visual thinker and a whiz with technical skills. He can play the piano, reads music and loves to paint on canvas. He has not completely recovered, however, and you can still see him as a high functioning guy with autism. I would like to reach out to other parents on the list about the fact that we still need to help Dr. Goldberg " cure " the rest of his nids patients. We need to get to the next step-the immune modulator agents-to recover the other patients Dr. Goldberg has worked so hard over the years to help. These agents are the best hope we others have for a full recovery. How do we get the attention of groups like Autism Speaks or the new Autism Science Foundation to listen to Dr. Goldberg's message? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Gayle Re: How often do kids recover when following the protocol?
