Guest guest
Many people got started homeschooling because of their disillusionment in the public schools, including me. Now I realize that homeschooling is a far more natural way of training our kids than sending them off to strangers in strange places. Natural learning comes in all of life, from the beginning -at birth. Sending a young child off into the world of strangers and strange places is very unnatural and not healthy. Parents are told by 'the institution' that they are not competent enough to teach their children but we don't have to take that as gospel. It isn't. If we can teach our children to walk, why not teach them to read? After we teach them to read, they can learn anything with only our guidance, oversight, encouragement and determination. This way they are not limited to our abilities. My own daughter (16) has far surpassed my education. She is teaching herself. Same for my 14 year old son. Real life isn't age-segregated as classrooms are. Kids learn quite young to distrust all adults including parents when they are taught in this manner. It is much better for them to learn to deal with all age groups without the segregation. The mis-information mentioned does indeed start right away. History and science have been changed so much so that it isn't even history anymore and science is not based on any real science but conjecture and fairy tales. Like Don said, they are being force-fed garbage and it is presented as fact. Outright lies. And when a parent allows this stuff to be taught to their kids, then try to unteach it, it is gets confusing to the child. Eventually the kids are learn not to trust their parents. The schools are teaching them this. Many schools are teaching the kids to report their parents if they disagree with the pc school system! Don is right, the educational system in the US is nothing but shambles. The psyches who run the system have a vested interest in keeping your kids under their control. First off, the system receives several thousands of tax-dollars per head. Somewhere around $6,000 here. Some are as high as $12,000/child annually. The government's 'School-to-Work' program is a dangerous one from the perspective of freedom and choice. These psyches have forced dangerous drugs on many kids just to keep them subdued in the classroom. Many times the kid just needs to be allowed to learn, not drugged stupid. Homeschooling has gotten so popular that is has gotten the attention of many big businesses and publishers so that there is no shortage of materials available for someone who is considering it. There is lots of help and support, even aplenty! It has also gotten the attention of the NEA and others with vested interests (boiling down to the almighty $$$) who are desparately trying to gain control over the 'homeschool movement' with their pc psycho-babble. We have a choice: we either allow them to do this or we don't. Many of us homeschoolers teach our kids what we know to be right inspite of these control freaks. Even Ivy League schools are courting homeschoolers because they find them to be more responsible, more mature, less destructive. There are less alcohol and drug problems, less vandalism, less problems all the way around. Some of these instructors are finding these kids a joy to be around! Ok, ok, I'm off this soapbox, before I offend everyone on this list.....lol.... diane in nw mt ----- Original Message ----- From: Don Quai health Sent: Thursday, October 21, 2004 12:04 AM Subject: Re: night fright ok_fine@... wrote:> Thank you for this Suzi, I sent it to my sons teacher. I agree, the educational system is in complete shambles. The educational system has become a mis-educational system. They teach very little in the way of anything useful for living and life.Is it hard work to educate your own? That is all a matter of perspective. Depends on what you wish for your child. Many parents today opt for homeschooling their own children so they can get proper information and not being force fed the garbage dreamed up by the phychiatric profession and psychologists that drive todays education for children.I realize that not everyone believes they have the time or where-withal to teach their own children. It is a matter of choice. If you feel you are not qualified to teach your own child then think again. You are much more qualified to teach your own child than any state sponsored, federally funded teacher. Who knows, you both might actually enjoy it and you both may learn alot about one another in the process.Peace be with you .-- Peace, love and light,Don Quai"Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man." Guest guest
Thanks Don I appreciate that. Don, you are absolutely correct! The main difference in my oldest child (public schooled for 6 years, then homeschooled) and my younger 2 is relationship. The relationship i have with the younger 2 is amazingly different than with my oldest son, even to this day.. (He is 29 and has his own life). With Jasmine and we are so much closer to each other... it is so much better I can't even describe it! I can trust my 16 yo daughter in every way. She even has access to our banking accounts because she has shown herself so trustworthy. This is not to say she doesn't have failures, she does. But I trust her unfailingly. My younger 2 have been taught to think for themselves, rather than be what my 16 yo calls sheople-people. She said she does not want to be one of those! To quote her: "You can't come out of homeschool any more 'stupider' than you would public school." Homeschool works even when it doesn't. Don is right again... and not only does the child have much to gain but as the parent YOU also do. When you have a good relationship with your child things change and change for the better! Communication is far better when you have your child with you, teaching him/her about life as it really is, including him/her in decisions and .... well.... life! Life in general! Your child will gain much more wisdom under your guidance than a stranger's. And getting to know your child is the most wonderful experience for both of you! Research it! Ask questions! It is seriously something to consider! Then do it! diane in nw mt who will never again surrender a child to the govt' system ============================Very, very well put Diane. You definitely hit the nail on the head. Spot on. You put that so much more eloquently than I could have. If anyone is considering teaching their own child (or should I say allowing their child to teach themselves with your guidance) I highly suggest you get busy researching and go for it. You have absolutely nothing to lose and your child has everything to gain.-- Peace, love and light,Don Quai"Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man." Guest guest
Homeschooling is a wonderful thing. All 3 of mine go to public school however. If I homeschooled they would miss out on all the key socialization they are getting with other kids and adults. Something that is essential for an autistic child especially. Also, I direct and approve or correct what they are taught. They always come to me for the bottom line on things and will tell their teacher if they think he/she is wrong hehe.
