Guest guest
Has anyone else had no improvement with enzymes but success with gfcf? I'd also like to say: How AWESOME is this board?! I'd kind of been coasting with my 6 yr old aspie son but when an adult asked him why he kept repeating himself (his echolalia), I thought that I'd better start researching the gfcf diet again. And here it is, all laid out for me. YAY! Thank you so so so much. Do any of you have your ASD children on this diet? How hard is it to > follow through with and what are some specifics that I should know > about. Guest guest
Angie, The diet was a God-send for us. Our daughter has biological as well as behavioral and it helped both immensely. Just remember, it is only part of the solution to helping autism, there is much that goes with the diet. It takes money, and lots of time to research products, shop, order stuff, and prepare things as time goes along. We took out the casein first as well. Your library may have some books, Special Diets for special kids is one to start with. Guest guest
Thank you to all of you who responded. This will help me a lot! One more question: What milk substitute do any or all of you use? When I briefly tried the casein free part a while back (long story...) I was told to use a powdered milk made of potatoes. My daughter would only drink the chocolate variety, and frankly, I understand why, it was icky. Thanks much! Angie Mom to Kaylin 4 ASD, Nate 20 mo. NT In a message dated 8/12/2008 2:50:05 P.M. Guest guest
In baking, canned coconut milk makes a delicious substitute, in Jello cook and serve puddings, for one example. I used my southern sweet potato casserole recipe by substituting coconut milk in place of the cow's milk -- oh my-- they are GOOD! Keep a can or two of coconut milk at home for those times when you're baking and need something richer than rice milk. Penny > > Thank you to all of you who responded. This will help me a lot! Guest guest
Hi there! I was just wondering-I spoke with a doctor in New York about bringing my 4yr old daughter in for treatment. The problem is that the doc said she wanted my child to be on a GF/CF Diet for a couple of months before we have our appointment-This is impossible-my little girl goes to school all day and goes between her dads house and mine, she also spends ALOT of time with her gramma. Her dads side of the family for some reason refuses to understand the concept behind this diet. My autistic tot gets powdered doughnuts, cookies etc...etc...I can tell them all I want how important this is but I know they will not participate. My son is also autistic and they give him COKE! My question is-Is my daughter's treatment going to be unaffective if this diet is not followed? I think I can control the Gluten but not the Casiene, will that help? I guess if the doc says the diet is crucial I will just have to keep my lil girl with me all the time.
