Guest guest
Hello all, Our fella tested positive to 70+ food allergies so our allergist has put him on an elimination diet for the next three weeks. (We did both the skin test and the blood test) All he can eat is chicken, rice, green grapes, sweet potatoes and water for every meal. My concern has always been our son's mushy stools and very high IGE levels. This is day 9 in our diet and we are surprised that his stools are still mushy and sometimes runny. We are beginning to wonder if this is stomach upset due to the meds Dr. G has him on. (We always make sure he has food on his stomach first) Or we wonder if this could be his body adjusting to the new diet. But my thought is that if we are removing all the allergens then his stools should normalize by now. Of course our allergist is skeptical of the protocol and is frankly too arrogant to even consider it. We are concerned and wondered if anyone could offer some insight. Thanks, Martha
Guest guest
Martha, Here are a few thoughts I had... Many of our kids don¹t process foods in a normal way... so even eliminating allergic foods may not bring about a ³fix² for stools. You might want to ask Dr. G about using the probiotic kyodophilus to improve the balance of intestinal flora. Also, sweet potatoes are starchy and could theoretically feed yeast, so if your child isn¹t on an antifungal that could be an issue (or even if he is... depending on how much he¹s eating). Regards, Caroline G.
Guest guest
Caroline, Thank you for this feedback. I have actually been thinking about trying kyodophilus. I will definitely ask Dr. G about this. Do you buy this probiotic from a specialty lab? I am wondering how much to give a 40lb child. I have heard from another parent that it has to be a high powered probiotic to be effective. Our son is on an antifungal but it may very well be time to switch to another one. Thanks again for this feedback. Guest guest
Martha, I struggled with this exactly with my daughter. She did have good stools for awhile after starting the antifungal and then the mushy stools came back. I eliminated and eliminated and eventually I had to take my daughter off of her drugs because she became either allergic to the additives of the drugs or the drugs themselves. I dont know yet. It helped her stools to where she didnt have diarrhea anymore. Then I eliminated so many foods you could go crazy! That didnt work either. It helped when I found an offending food but things still werent totally great. Still had mushy stools. Finally her EM doc ordered a stool analysis to check to see if she still had yeast, needed enzymes, or had dysbiosis or what. The stool analysis came back and my daughter had no yeast at all but she did have lots of other bacteria that were potentially causing inflammation in her gut like Strep and some other ones I had never heard of before. He ordered Therbiotic from Klaire Labs which is much much stronger than the Kyodophilus she was on (her probiotic bacteria wasn't even showing up in the stool culture test!). So far so good! Good poops for a month straight and that has never happened before. I hope this helps you, I went through what you did a few months ago and it helps if someone else has a word of wisdom! - > > Hello all, > Our fella tested positive to 70+ food allergies so our allergist has put him > on an elimination diet for the next three weeks. Guest guest
My son developed severe diarrhea from a parasite. Parasites are very common, most of us carry at least one at any given time. There are some 1000 different ones, but tests for only 50 or so. Treating him for parasites fixed the problem. Guest guest
From my experience with Dr. G, he would not want you to do an elimination diet at all. He would want you to submit a food diary every week and help you with the diet issues himself. And he thinks allergists are pretty much a waste of time.
