Guest guest
Hi Cara, When you make diet choices, you have to know approximately the sugar or starch content. Most fruit and all whole grains are too high in sugar for a candida diet in my opinion. Your issues didn't start with the candida; your weak immune system is probably due to low glutahtione, which you can correct with undenatured whey, selenium, and other antioxidants. Whey info: http://tinyurl.com/cuzcc The low immune system, fatigue/CFS (mono?), eczema and mucous production should all be reduced or eliminated as glutathione levels are elevated and maintained. That being said, you have a toxin load from the bowel dysbiosis and candida right now that will slow progress until you correct it. With the bowel involvement you need more inulin; most people I think are supplementing with it so they don't have to restrict to only high- inulin foods. Inulin info: http://tinyurl.com/2m29z The bonus with this " inulin-added " technique is that you can relax a bit on the carbs and include some fruit and occasionally a small portion of whole grains that you might have had to restrict otherwise. This is because the robust bowel ecology can also eat some of the carbs and it will be fed enough to be dominant even in the presence of some carbs; conversely, using only inulin-containing foods you'll barely get enough inunlin to squeak by so you'd have to restrict dietary carbs more. Acidophilus is not really the correct probiotic; feed your bifidobacteria. Yogurt is fine, albeit a very weak performer with regards to bacterial culture. The solids, mainly casein, are hard to digest by about half the population. You could use whey or fermented undenatured whey, or whey pudding instead for more benefit. We have a glyconutrient pudding heading in the searchable archives. Googling " soy warning " should deter you permanently from soy. It's thyroid-suppressive, directly thyroid-antagonistic, a goiter and cancer cause, and it reduces libido at the very least. Rice is a carb. 'Nuff said. I don't see people giving up a whole lot of foods; the diet is essentially a carb reduction to more primitive levels that are nothing more that naturally healthy, and a little other tinkering for biological support because biology is failing a bit. Everybody would do well to consider dropping carbs and soy. Duncan > > Hi Duncan, > My name is Cara. I'm using my sister Sacha's email address. I saw the same naturopathic doctor that diagnosed my sister with candida. He said that I have candida aswell but I do not experience the same stomach symptoms that my sister does. My symptoms for approx 6 years consists of: > -Fatigue > -Weak immune system (get sick easily) > -Frequent bladder and yeast infections > -Mucous in the throat (especially in the morning) > -Eczema (had since I was young) > > Additional possible factors: > -I am on the pill > -I had mono when I was 16 (now 21) > > I started taking the acidopholis and an antifungual from the doctor. I'm not really used to being on a restricted diet. I have eliminated all refined sugar, yeast and milk products. But I'm still confused as to what I am allowed to eat because a lot of the information from the internet is contradictory. Can I still eat fruit? Is plain-cultured yoghurt allowed? Soy/rice milk? My doctor said my body is able to accept soy, can I still have it? > > I hope you can help me as you have helped my sister so much. I just feel frustrated and confused because I dont want to give up all foods I like. > > Looking forward to hearing back from you > > Cara > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Hey Duncan, How are you? I was just wondering, I've noticed for the past 2 weeks or so, I get a pain in my heart for 1-2 seconds and it really hurts to breath, but then it goes away.. and comes back the next day. Do you know what it could be? or if its associated to anything I'm taking? Or is it bad? Also, I was just wondering what your opinions are on taking Relora. It's for the reduction of stress and stress related symptoms. It helps support normal levels of the cortisol and DHEA hormones in the body to promote the management of stress related symptoms. I'm a student, and I get extremely stressed at school. Thanks so much. Have a good weekend Sincerely, Sacha __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Lots of things can cause it; I obviously can't tell you what's wrong but because it hurts to breathe, plus the stress issues, I'd suspect gas, a muscle spasm or bronchial spasms. I'd look into Dr. Abram Hoffer's orthomolecular supplement program for stress; it's essentially b-vitamins, much extra niacin, zinc, magnesium. Duncan > > Hey Duncan, > How are you? Guest guest
Rena... According to this site the price went up to $31.49. I didn't check shipping but if S & H is reasonable, that's a good price. Most protein products have gone up in price verrrry recently and the reason is because the cost of the raw materials just tripled in price for the manufacturers. It isn't just Matrix, it's all of them. If anyone has a source for cheaper products buy them now before the price goes up. Guest guest
Some docs say yes to carbonated drinks and some say no. Dr. A says no. The reason is that when you are banded during surgery Dr. Aceves puts the band around your stomach. Then he brings the lower part of the stomach up and over the band and stitches it in place. This creates a pocket at the top of the lower stomach. Not sure if that makes sense, but when you are banded you kinda sorta have two stomachs, a little one (the pouch) and your regular stomach below where food drains after being in your pouch. The problem is that when he sews the lower stomach up and over the band this causes a little pocket on the top of the lower (bigger) stomach. When you drink carbonation the gas goes up and stays in that pocket at the top of your lower stomach and it HURTS! You see, I'm one of those people that if there is a " Wet Paint " sign on a wall, I have to touch the wall to see if the paint is really wet. ;o) I had to test out the carbonation thing too. I'm here to tell you, it hurts. It doesn't hurt as much when you have no restriction as the gas from the carbonation can still continue going up and you burp. But with restriction it is a whole different world. Your stoma (the part of your stomach directly under the band) acts like a one way valve and things can go down but they don't come up well again such as ... gas. It becomes quite painful and if you think about it, the only way to get rid of the gas quickly is to stand on your head. ;o))))) Then it could travel down through your intestines. Not a pleasant experience at all. Some believe that the gas could harm your pouch, Dr. A doesn't feel this is a huge possibility because the gas travels to your lower stomach. But it isn't great. Besides, carbonation is responsible for many problems such as bone loss. It doesn't matter what drink, albeit soda, whatever. Carbonation in large quantities over time can be responsible for bone loss. So that's the skinny on carbonation according to Dr. Aceves. Coffee is another one but the problem is not the same as with soda. Coffee/caffeine is an irritant and it can cause pain and swelling with your stoma. If you didn't have problems with coffee before banding you won't likely have problems with the irritation after banding. Guest guest
I think the reason that carbonated drinks are off limits is because the gas bubbles can make you feel very uncomfortable. I must have a very active imagination and just can see my little stomach stretching and feeling very uncomfortable so I have never tried drinking anything carbonated in the past 2 years! I have seen some other explanations on this board and they all made sense. I just am a real fast learner when it comes to hurting so I avoid anything that sounds painful. I also still crush all my pills or chew them up because very early on I slimed on a very tiny pill. Why tempt fate is my motto and I stick by it! Just some thoughts from an old timer! Guest guest
Hello All, I have heard many explanations on the cola issue. I am near my first year anniversary date. I still want a diet coke from time to time. They are no longer a regular part of my diet. Have I given them up completely? No, I have not. Do I drink them weekly or monthly? No. Do I drink one on occasion? Yes, I do. I cannot drink a whole one but I can enjoy the taste of them from time to time. I am lucky, the carbonation does not bother me. There is another reason that I leave them alone for the most part and that is that I can't get all my water in and drink a beverage that gives me no credit for water or nutrients. Remember all the discussions at those Weight Watcher's meetings that carbonation in the tummy stimulates the appetite? I don't know if that is true or not, but even tho I am banded I don't need to do anything to aggravate my forward progress. The band is wonderful and it works with you over time. It doesn't mean you must feel deprived of every enjoyment in life, just that you must manage that enjoyment. Use your best judgement and listen to your inner voice as to what is " best " for you. Wishing you all success in your weight loss journey. C Tampa From: Bipley <Bipley@...> Reply- Subject: Re: help with diet Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2007 17:37:03 -0700 Some docs say yes to carbonated drinks and some say no. Dr. Guest guest
If your son is OK with it, the new-ish Barilla Plus pastas are high in protein and fiber. My son eats lots of plain hamburger patties and salmon and peanut butter. I also make him pancakes loaded with protein and just a hint of maple syrup on top.
